I was very excited to watch this dorama, because the idea of an autistic cook really attracted me, but seeing this stereotype of the "autistic genius" being used again even here discouraged me.
I'm tired of the whole "autistic=genius" trope but aside from that, the first episode was pretty enjoyable and…
I think the same, i was very excited to watch this dorama, because the idea of an autistic cook really attracted me, but seeing this stereotype of the autistic genius being used again even here discouraged me.
I personally would really like her to have a loving relationship with Jung Myung Seok, an adult, affectionate,…
I've just watched ep 1 and ep 10 and man the ep 10 sentencing is rough... I feel for the guy. he's trash for not…
I completely agree with you. I understand, I also hated this episode and the way they tried to criticize the infantilization of autistic people. I feel like there were many more correct and less insensivite ways to do this. In the end, that autistic girl is still stuck with her toxic mother and that guy was arrested for a crime he didn't commit.
I just watched episode 16 today with my mom and we loved the dorama. We're even looking forward to a second season! I even have a theory/observation about the series that I'd like to share with you all:
I think that Young Woo's best friend, Dong Geurami, is also autistic or at least also has some neurodivergence (Like autism + TDAH for example)
Although she don't have problems with eye contact or food selectivity, i see several socialization problems that are difficult to ignore. Dong Geurami's behavior is completely different from the non-autistic characters in this series. She has no social filter, has insistence on the same things, acts completely strangely and socially inappropriately without realizing it (especially in those scenes involving Young Woo's rival coworker, who she has a crush on), and is also a very direct and literal person. Not to mention that i have a headcanon that karaoke is her special interest.
Although the series didn't mention anything about this possibility, as an autistic person and psychology enthusiast, i really like the idea of Dong Geurami also being autistic, because I admit that I saw myself in her character in several scenes like this, especially regarding the character's lack of social filter and her disinterest in following social norms, just as I saw myself a lot in Young Woo in other scenes, like her auditory sensitivity. Anyway, I like this theory because i love the idea of two autistic female characters being best friends! <3
Horrible. This series has the worst representation of autism I've ever seen. It goes beyond the stereotypical and does something absurd and disrespectful, portraying autism as if it were psychopathy.
I watched it without any expectations but and I had a big, positive surprise. It is extremely fun, intriguing and dramatic. It was amazing and i hope there is a 2nd season.
As a autistic person, i'm so tired of this.
