I dont agree with some points by avenueX. She said about it not making sense (no time) for PXR to change makeup…
Well AvenueX reviews can be harsh because she tends to stop before the first 5th episodes and she is picky. I agree with you regarding the clothes swap, in my eyes, it was actually quite logical since they didn't have time to do anything other than that.
But for the guards, I'm not sure. If we really investigate that matter (I'm calling your inner Sherlock), from their entrance in the prison to the spread of the fire in the entire cell plus all their talks : minimum 10 min are needed. And aren't prisons logically heavily guarded ?
Yes, I did write a useless comment in a Watson way. I don't even care that much but that just make it seem akward instead of tragic. AND I LOVE PXR'S ACTING ! So why would they screw that with awkwardness ?

Your point on He Hong Shan is spot on. Her acting is terrible, and if she had remained as the ML, I would have…
I really enjoyed the Sword and the Brocade with the amazing Seven Tan but the difference in acting was about two galaxies apart. It just shined an even brighter light on her over-too-much acting lmao

Viewers should not watch AvenueX's review first because you may drop this fine drama upon her advice which may…
Oh I'm already completely addicted and would definitely recommend it. It just makes me sad that there is such a difference between the first episodes and the rest of the story. It's like introducing a shiny gem as a plain rock.

She didn't become amazing doctor in days...she did mention she had been learning medicine from Zhenzhen's father…
Oh! I didn't pay attention to that detail. I thought they were more like playmate and the father was her mentor for general studies not specifically medecine. Plus, there was a scene where she was desperately self-studying after losing her closest ones.
Later on, she does prove her outstanding abilities among her peers doctors.
The lack of explaining regarding the family protected because of the attempt murder does bother me too. Same for the way she attacked the king with no one reacting, the way they easily escaped, and later the stories unravel other weird plotholes linked to the first episodes.

Because I'm bored and whatnot, how come no one bothered to mention that the FL was written to be such a mary sue?…
I feel more like she is kind of a spicy onion with many layers. In her heart, she is a bit savage and spicy but on the outside she looks like a white lotus/mary sue. And she definitely takes advantage of it to better understand what are the people's real intents around her. All the men in the show first misjudge her. Only after giving a glance on her skills are they able to see her in a better way. But, what is truly making me grit my teeths is when the men interested in her are taking away her opportunities to protect herself in her way. Aside from the ML who fastly understand she is quick witted enough to take care of her troubles, the others can't stop to be involved. And sometimes even the ML decide to add his salt to the cliche recipe.
Plus, in the show, only the women from the Feng family are seen in charge. So, it kinda looks like women from that period are rarely decision maker. In that way, she can be seen as a pioneer with her cousins.
So, patiently waiting for the moment where she will stand on her own in a clear way instead of pulling strings or letting the men misjudged her abilities.

To be fairly honest, the 3 first episodes are a mess (Just watch AvenueX Youtube review on it : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bY4lDiNt6JE ). The actress He Hong Shan playing the princess before her change of face is terrible at acting.
Only afterwards, the plot got wise and addictive. The ML and FL acting and interactions are quite moving and help to not notice some plot holes (how could she become better than an imperial doctor/experienced doctor in DAYS before arriving in Zhenzou ?). Definitely, Peng Xia Ran save the entire show with her acting skills (whenever she cries or feel sad I do too, and I've got an iced stone heart after watching years of dramas). Same for Jin Han, who really impressed me by showing such a wide range of expressions and acting (ruthless but softhearted, happy but desperate, crying but determined).
After passing the first terrible episodes where logic decided to be on strike, the show become really excellent. So worth the wait and the painful 3 non logical episodes to discover a gem with two amazing actors I'm going to keep in check. So, just go ahead and fast forward the 3 first episodes, then just enjoy !

After watching 6 episodes, here are some reviews:
- Slow pace:
The cdrama takes its time to build the story instead of adrenaline rush. It's pretty refreshing for a wuxia drama knowing their tendency (of wuxia drama) to rush with so much information about the codes and defining features.
- Expecting layered and growth characters:
Well, it's about expectations but already in the first few episodes, the lead girl is learning and growing up which is very reassuring for what comes next or is expected. Wang Yi Bo is also pretty great for showing layers in his characters. The parents characters surprised me for having overall multi-layered personalities which might confirm second lead characters won't left out of any growth.
For Li Sheng character, I'm already crossing my fingers that he will grow up too because he might already be a bother in my eyes.
- Realisation realistic and focused:
Far away from the usual over-too-much realisations we tend to see in wuxia, here it seems pretty cosy and comfy to watch. The realisation focus on what is important and have a few close up to intrigue during actions. It has been pretty enjoyable so far.
- Slow burn:
Last but not least, we can already see the lead characters getting closer and have some cute scenes that trigger a smile on your face. However, it's definitely going to be a slow burn between them. The characters personalities do match such a kind of romance.
- The ending?:
I'm part of those people that only watch and never read (oupsi) so I'm a bit worried about the last scene in the ending video where the lead girl watches Yibo sleeping (or dead ???). I'm trying to keep calm about a possible tragic ending so if anyone already read the novel please DO SPOIL me!
