No, but you cannot cast them in the same role. Suppose I replace Kim Soo Hyun with Kim Yoo Jung in Backstreet Rookie or Kim Soo Hyun with Kim Yoo Jung in this show, you will have a totally different show.
In fact, if you put Kim Soo Hyun in Backstreet Rookie in the role of Kim Yoo Jung, I am pretty sure that the ratings for BR will be at least double... KSH with JCW as lovers in a rom-com... That's some fanservice for the girls...
Just because this drama have good cinematography and actors doesnt mean its good tho yall taste are bad lmfao…
Yo boy, I have my question marks with episode 3 as well. But Kim Yoo Jung (a female) replacing Kim Soo Hyun (a male)? Stop experimenting with the battery acid man, you are getting a bit weird
You are not supposed to understand people with mental illness... You should accept them, but not understand them...…
I am not saying that the person that understands is crazy, but Moon Young. I corrected the sentence.
It is difficult to explain, but with understanding, you are not only able to empathize, but also able to condone the behavior.
My opinion is that you should not understand this kind of behavior, but instead you need to understand that this behavior is wrong. Only then you can help her.
Moon Young's situation is a bit difficult, as she is not really harming anyone. But supposed you have a pedosexual (which is definitely not okay). Then you need to understand that this person is not okay, but IU issa queen is telling us that we need to understand the mentally ill. This gives me the impression that people should learn to condone any of its actions - even of a pedosexual. Perhaps even ignore it. My interpretation of her sentence might be wrong, but she reiterated this feeling in a later message.
I am only saying that that is the "wrongest type of understanding" you can have. If you have this sense of perspective, then you are able to understand even the most vile and wrong deeds. This is definitely not the right way to look at things.
I love this drama so much, I don't care about all the critics coming from immature people. I have watched it and…
Your criticism is a bit from last week. It has died down quite a bit. The fury is now with It Okay Not To Be Okay and its so-called romantization of the female lead.
Backstreet Rookie still has low-ish viewership ratings, but it is gaining quite a bit of momentum and approaching double digits nationwide and passed double digits in Seoul according to some sources. In fact, during all the criticism, it never made a freefall in ratings. So there is room for slight positivism (unlike for example with TKEM, where it started high and trended lower with each episode).
You really hit the nail on the head with this. I used to be one of those people who judged a show’s success…
But we already knew that from the previous episodes.
We know that MY has a trauma related most likely to her mum (the scene with the journalist who was threatening her). There is also something with her dad.
Regarding KT we know that he is running away from the murderer/butterfly. During the last episode, he realized already that he was the "coward" when his brother was saying that he did not mind going back to his hometown, as they serve one good jjamppong at the local Chinese restaurant. At that moment, KT realized that he was not protecting his brother, but he was in fact the "coward" by running away.
It is repetitive in nature, but with really nice visual effects done again. But there needs to be a quicker progression. This is just stating what we already knew.
You are not supposed to understand people with mental illness... You should accept them, but not understand them...…
But then you are talking about something totally different (a different kind of understanding). You are talking about understanding the process, not Moon Young as a person. IU issa Queen was saying that you need to be able to position yourself in the shoes of Moon Young and rationalize her behavior. That is a bit difficult as I am not like Moon Young.
That’s very misleading —First half of episode 4 is 4.6Second half of episode 4 is 8.3The average of the two…
You need to compare apples to apples. I was comparing the weekend ratings for TVN and JTBC. They had some big successes for quite a while (especially JTBC). Weekday ratings are a mixed bag.
there are people here arguing that it’s a fictional drama...so they can forgive FL for trying to steal someone…
I have been thinking one thing for a while. I seriously think that the KYJ's character is not totally sane. Remember she has no parents (her parents died), she is neglected and then she finds someone that is sort of a father-figure to her. She is basically like IU in My Ahjussi.
Her behavior is very animalistic. If I feed a malnourished dog, the dog has the tendency to follow me. To me it is only food, but to the dog I am his savior. She is basically the same
You are not supposed to understand people with mental illness... You should accept them, but not understand them...…
You can sympathize, empathize or accept mental illnesses. But understanding? With understanding you assume that there is some rationality behind the behavior. But that is the problem, there is no rationality in her behavior... I am just saying that "understanding" is not the right word.
That’s very misleading —First half of episode 4 is 4.6Second half of episode 4 is 8.3The average of the two…
Psycho's ratings were perhaps decent in 2012 for TVN and JTBC, but these channels have been pumping out 10%+ ratings for quite a while. Since Memories of the Alhambra, only Melting Me Softly, Romance Is A Bonus Book and When My Love Blooms have performed worse.
KSH is the nation's darling and it is a big budget drama, it should be able to maintain its ratings and not see it drop so significantly between episode 1 and 2.
You really hit the nail on the head with this. I used to be one of those people who judged a show’s success…
I like it as well, but my major problem is with the pace. If you can speed up the story, then it will become a top drama. Today's episode was much ado about nothing. They should keep the story small. KSH, his brother and SYJ... Nothing else. There was no story building today, almost no flashbacks or hardly any mention of the butterfly. This is fine when you have writer's block after nine episodes, but not with the third episode... If you watch for example, Kkondae Intern... Every scene is meaningful and will come back later.
If you can not understand moon young then how can you understand people with mental illness? The story is not…
You are not supposed to understand people with mental illness... You should accept them, but not understand them... That is why psychiatrists are so eager to cure this kind of behavior, because it is not normal...
That’s very misleading —First half of episode 4 is 4.6Second half of episode 4 is 8.3The average of the two…
JTBC is 11pm. Thus avoiding the fierce early Friday battle. SBS deliberately choose to fight during the most fierce time slot.
I do agree that a good product will always survive, but if we use that same argument is it fair to say that "It is Okay Not To Be Okay" is not a good product as viewership ratings are not climbing above 6% (yet)? Just asking, because I was at the other forum and I saw some fans pissed off at people like me mentioning the ratings... Dropping arguments such as quality does not translate to ratings (this brings back the TKEM-memories). Haha
Anyways, you do need to give credit to Backstreet Rookie for its ability to survive the backlash, gain momentum and approaching double-digits ratings against all odds... It is like a Ginkgo tree, it can survive any bomb thrown at it.
You really hit the nail on the head with this. I used to be one of those people who judged a show’s success…
Peak at 7.3% for My Ahjussi is definitely not bad. The average TVN drama at My Ahjussi's time slot is doing 2-3%... They are doing three times that.
If the average TVN drama at Saturday and Sunday is doing 6%, then this show must do 12-18% to get the same impact as My Ahjussi... If they manage to get these kinds of ratings, everyone will shut up about the ratings... Instead, they are below average for a Saturday-Sunday ratings for TVN. This is KSH's comeback, primetime and high budget. That is why people like me, make a fuzz about the ratings.
That’s very misleading —First half of episode 4 is 4.6Second half of episode 4 is 8.3The average of the two…
Comparative advantage, nice econ term... Let me give you another econ term: substitution good. Variety shows and dramas fight for the same attention of the viewers. A viewer can decide to watch a movie, a variety show, this drama, go out, sleep etc. etc..
Also, you might not realize it, but have you ever wondered why there are no Friday-Saturday dramas anymore? TVN used to have them (Misaeng is a famous example), KBS2 as well (The Producers is a famous example). Friday is ultra-competitive. There is hardly a competitive, comparative or an absolute advantage. Friday's are bloodbaths.
That’s very misleading —First half of episode 4 is 4.6Second half of episode 4 is 8.3The average of the two…
No, you are talking about context and competition. But I am only saying that the competition has never been other dramas, but variety shows. This has been like this for a while, since TWOTM stopped airing... So it is not like other channels gave them a walk in the park. They are still competing and surviving. Variety shows can still take away viewership ratings from dramas...
Seo Ye Ji is not a bad actress. From the younger ones (post-1990s), she is one of the better ones, but when she…
That is why I cited people such as Kim Hye Soo, Jun Ji Hyun and Son Ye Jin. Whenever they act crazy, they overdramatize themselves as well, but Seo Ye Ji's facial expressions are not really subtle. She blinks very clearly with her eyes, she keeps her neck very stiff when she talks to KSH, her head is a bit tilted whenever she feels superior, she sometimes does not look people in the eyes as if she forgot her lines and tries to memorize them and her smile/smirk to indicate she is crazy is forced . I think K Hello is right. She is trying to be really fierce, but that makes her a bit weird. Her iris is also very big and black, which makes it difficult to "read" her soul. It also gives me the impression that she is continuously staring and focusing at people.
That’s very misleading —First half of episode 4 is 4.6Second half of episode 4 is 8.3The average of the two…
I do not understand where this argument comes from that there is no competition on Friday. There has never been another drama on the 10pm timeslot on Friday? JTBC is 11pm. So the competition for SBS has always been TVN's 3 Meals A Day. TKEM slipped after every episode due to 3 Meals A Day, Knowing Bros and other variety shows. Although this drama opened lower than TKEM, it is holding its ground (not losing viewers) against these variety shows. In fact, it is creeping up
That’s very misleading —First half of episode 4 is 4.6Second half of episode 4 is 8.3The average of the two…
Pranksalot, I think you do not understand the word "momentum". Stove League for example started with 3.3% and 5.5% (which is low), but due to hype and momentum, it grew to 19.1% by its finale. When The Camellia Blooms started with 6.3% and 7.4% (which is good for Wednesday-Thursday), but ended with 23.8%. Sky Castle (although cable) started with 1.7% and the rest is history. The fact that BR managed to gain almost 4% from the first half to the second half is peculiar... There is momentum... If they can keep it up, the can reach double-digits very soon
In fact, if you put Kim Soo Hyun in Backstreet Rookie in the role of Kim Yoo Jung, I am pretty sure that the ratings for BR will be at least double... KSH with JCW as lovers in a rom-com... That's some fanservice for the girls...

Sure high viewership ratings might not indicate quality, but low viewership does not either
