This might (probably is) a really biased opinion about this adaptation so you've been warned :')
Other than using the name "Guardian" and the character names, can we really consider this as Guardian? I've read the novel, the synopsis is completely different to it. I'm also going to make the assumption they're not gonna keep the BL elements since you know, Chinese censorship. So how would this be Guardian?
The reason Guardian (drama) is sooo loved was because Zhu Yi Long and Bai Yu was able to completely grasp the characters despite the crappy script. The way they acted towards each other and their micro-expressions perfectly captured the love the two characters had for each other, despite not really being allowed to show it. Nothing against the actors, but Zhu Yi Long and Bai Yu broke their backs carrying the train wreck of a script, Guardian.
I'm happy Guardian is sooo loved but IMO I don't think this is really a Guardian adaptation.
What I learn after watching many dramas adapted from books, is to keep my expectation very low. This is not me…
That's been exactly my experience with novel to drama adaptations as well so whilst I'm SUPER HYPED about this adaptation I'm also sooooo worried of it being butchered.
I, also, am just hoping for a good plot and characters that'll do justice to the novel. And I can't help but compare it to Guardian....great novel...terrible drama. But AMAZING cast...I hope the cast can bring the characters to life, because even if we don't get a good plot at least we'd get to see some great characters.
Cdramas have GREAT OST, so I'm sure this'll have it too :))
I love everything about the novel...I'm not convinced of the cast but I hope to god that this is good...and HOPE they don't butcher the story...I'm expecting something like Guardian (drama) but better screenplay (since Guardian brought me to MDZS)
This is my most anticipated drama for 2019 now....don't know if this is a good thing or not.
The original Chinese Odyssey/JTTW was about Buddhism and philosophy... I don't think it's a good idea to make…
This also why I think this drama is super weird...it doesn’t feel right. They’re changing a huge piece of classical work that represents the Chinese culture and philosophy for entertainment...the meaning behind JTTW is so much more than just a romance story...
Not bashing or anything (I’m a fan of the casts) but being Chinese, and a huuuge fan of Journey to the West (I’ve practically seen all of its many adaptations) I kinda feel a little strange that Korea has taken this classic work that is a part of the Chinese culture and completely changed it...they’ve only kept some of the character names...I dunno. I know China and Korea share some similar cultural traits and history. And some literature too but I feel a little weird.
Out of thousands of Asian actresses, they HAD to choose her. From their choice, it looks to me like they're going to add other big names to this adaptation just in case the story isn't good enough to stand on its own with new faces.
I now have zero expectations for this film. Disney is going to ruin one of their best animations.
I think this will be great!! I can already see how sweet and adorable this could be!! Chae Soo Bin has been killing it!! Pair with my bae is just the cherry on top!!
Good movie, all the characters are likeable and it has everything that you expect from a movie about this era of Chinese history. Just sometimes I feel like the storytelling could be better. It was choppy at times which made it difficult to follow but overall a good performance from the cast

Saying that, I’m curious how it’ll turn out
Best Historical/Sageuk: Rebel: The Thief Who Stole the People
Best Up and Coming Actor 2017: Yoon Gyun Sang
Best Up and Coming Actress 2017: Chae Soo Bin
Am I being too sensitive?
