Age gaps don't bother me at all in dramas as long as the people are of legal age. Just like in RL. You don't know…
Agree with you 100% its really none of anyone's business and im not sure why people gotta be so judgmental about it. There are tons of similar aged protagonists in the myriad of dramas here to watch instead. Also not sure why people care about actor age gaps when they are just portraying characters.
I like romances with age gap, esp older women/younger men trope. As long as both the actors are legal, I don't…
I agree with you 100%. Witch's Romance is one like that. The real gap is very big but you don't even notice it or care by the end because the chemistry is so good. I should check out WWW, been meaning to.
I would like to know where this version differs from the Korean version. Are there any differences at all? Would…
I've seen both, I started watching the TW first then later decided to watch the K version. The Korean version feels a bit more polished. Also, the lady is older and the age gap is bigger. It's 14 years, whereas in this one its 9 or so. The TW version is melodramatic and intense more stuff happens, and racier in general, especially with the makeout scene at the start and the Cindy storyline and some stuff at the end. But the Korean version has hilarious side characters that absolutely steal the show, and the TW doesn't. But in the TW version, the ex is more likeable and sad, which makes it easier to like him and makes her decision more understandable. The 'Polar Bear' in K is good but not as likeable, which makes her wishy washiness between the two men tough to watch. In my opinion both lead actresses are fantastic, though I preferred the Korean actress as she actually looks older and you can see her get cuter as the series progresses. Also the chemistry is better in the Korean version, especially towards the end. They really seem like they liked each other-- everyone on viki was commenting on it lol. The "Ethan/Young Dong" character is more realistic in the Korean version, whereas he is much more gruff and 'tsundere' in the TW version, I found him unlikable at times. Instead he is much sweeter in the K version, and he is a better actor in my opinion. K version doesn't drag as much, the TW version is SO LONG and I prefer the less episodes of he K version. Both endings are great and v similar. Over all they are both very good but I enjoyed the Korean one a lot more and skipped through a lot less.
I guess that I am missing something. After the fifth episode, I decided that I could not go on much longer. I…
Late comment, but you are not alone. It is a good drama, (I enjoyed it) but its not even close to a fave. Looks like the high ratings are because Lee Jong Suk fans keep giving it 10.
THE FUCK is happening? This is really bad, I tried so hard to wrap around the logic of every scene, with it's…
Late comment, but I just wanted to agree with you. I personally enjoyed this, it was gripping, but the sheer number of 10s this drama gets boggles my mind... the writing is good but not great. The acting is good but not great. The couple is ok, not great. The legal stuff is bent for the story's will, I could go on and on with the flaws with this drama. So I started thinking why all the 10s, and I'm wondering if its just because of the ML. And going on his page, yep. There's an actor worship there, and it is skewing the ratings dramatically. Makes me think that drama viewers must skew extremely young.
I watched this because I love noona-romances and the premise sounded cool, and it was, but honestly there are better noona-romances, cuter and more romantic ones and they get crap ratings because the ML isnt as hot, or the FL is too 'ahjumma' or whatever, because peple are judgey and just judge on such superficial reasons.
I mean I know people are superficial but it makes me kinda sad to be a kdrama fan.
I just can't see myself shipping the main leads... not really into that older woman younger man romance. I don't…
If you dont like noona romance then this isn't for you. Not only is it a noona romance the lead is in HS so... that said, the only reason I can give for you to stick with it is that the thriller storyline is pretty good, and for some people who didn't like older woman/younger man dramas, they changed their mind after watching this.
Don't let close minded people deter you from giving this a try. If you are judging it on the poster, don't. The FL looks way better in the drama, especially towards the end. If you like Noona romance at all, then this is one of the best (if not the best?) Noona romances out there. It has chemistry galore, and its decidedly less weird than some other noona shows, imo because while Park Seo Joon is a little boyish in this, he is pretty manly still. Some other noona dramas have really young male leads which are ok but I find those a bit weirder. Maybe younger viewers relate to that more, but honestly, I prefer this one. It's hilarious, the B stories are great, and the age gap becomes less noticeable later. There's a bit of a slow love-triangle in the middle but nothing too bad. It helps the leads have chemistry for days. I didn't even know what chemistry was until I watched this; I feel this drama has spoiled me somewhat since I keep searching for moments as cute as ep 14 and 15 and can never find it. When people think of noona romance, most think of 'I Hear Your Voice' which seems to be the darling of the genre. But honestly? While 'Voice' has a better (more engaging) storyline, as a pure love story, this is more fluffy and cuter than 'I Hear Your Voice' -- with way more 'cute' payoff moments to make you squee. My friend (who I re-watched Witch with) actually wondered if the leads had had a fling, given the chemistry was so good. I don't think so, I think they just acted really well. So why do some people give this such a low rating? Watching the comments, there seems to be a lot of hate for Uhm Jeong Hwa, hair, looks, age, acting, whatever at the start. Not sure if its just tweenies watching dramas or uni students who can't relate to a mature woman bc they think they'll never get old or something, but honestly, by the end almost everyone was rooting for the two leads in the comments. Uhm Jeong Hwa gets prettier and prettier in this, the hair gets better and the fashion is to die for. (Even some of the crazy stuff she wears looks good on her) They call out her rockin bod in the drama itself later on, in a really cute and funny shopping scene, haha. . By the end of the drama I was definitely a Uhm Jeong Hwa fan, personally. Again fans of noona romance should def give it a try. If you don't like noona stuff then dont bother, unless you have an open mind.
I was thinking about rewatching this, it was nice but then I remember the age gap, wow! Would I date someone 20…
They're only 14 years apart in the story. I mean its a lot but its not crazy... Not sure why everyone is calculating their real age gap, its not like they were dating irl, even if their chemistry is off the charts in this.
Dropped this in the first episode, now I'm dropping this again in the 6th episode. He's such an immature…
Dunno if you picked it up again, but they resolve those misunderstandings pretty quick tbh, and she gets 'stronger' again. It gets good in the end, imo.
ah the age gap bothers me. don't get me wrong i love it when the guy is younger childish and depends on and looks…
They only have a 14 year age gap in the show, which isn't that bad, especially since the lead is 25, so pretty much an adult. If you're getting hung up on their real ages, that's weird-- They are actors and not dating irl. Lastly, if it bothers you that much, why comment on the page for this drama? To discourage people from watching it? To voice your moral problem with the age gap? All it does is make you seem pretty close minded and ageist. Sorry. I just don't understand the hate this drama gets for the age gap where people love other noona romances like 'I Hear Your Voice' where the dude is literally a HS student. This drama is the gold standard for romance, people hung up on the age gap are missing out, but whatever. Go watch something else then.
Good job, this is a great article and thanks for writing this, she is a fantastic actress, Sense 8 is where I first saw her and she has a raw energy that is just amazing in that. Very different to the typical kdrama actress, she feels very real when she acts. She is great and your article inspires me to seek her work out more.
