I binge watched this drama in four days. Overall, it has high production values in directing, acting, writing editing, costume design, set design and music. The hallucinations were OTP. Some of the acting was OTP, and some of the writing was UTP (... under the top). Favorite characters were Zhang Ping, Wang Yan, Gu Qing Zhang, Emperor, Old Master. Least favorite character was Old Empress. I presume that she died in the scarlet mist. (... insert applause here). I am glad this was only 29 episodes. Any more episodes would have been more filler and hallucinations. I would zone out a few times when the plot dragged. I had to rewatch the episode, to catch up on the plot.

The pacing is comparable to Nirvana in Fire. I didn't recognize Wang Duo. I remember his role as Duke in Bloody Romance.

Writing and acting went downhill in the final three episodes.

As soon as she reached the cliff, I said to myself, "Oh, it's cliff jumping and survival time". LOL It was ludicrous that she would survive the fall, and that Qing Min's boat was there to pick her up.

You forgot to mention the "jumping off the cliff and surviving" scene. 🤣🤣🤣

Nice review! I could not begin write a review because I didn't bother to retain the plotlines. The characters and the plot were predictable. It felt like a novice young writer wrote the story. The BGM engulfed the scenes.

I agree with your assessments. King Xuan was also into glare acting.

Splitting up the twins would eventually develop into jealousy and resentment between the two adult sons. The Yannan twin would think that his parents abandoned him in favor of the Beixian twin, who inherited the Xuan clan, the most feared clan in the kingdom.

I liked the quality of the songs and BGM, but the music was overkill. It felt like the BGM was dominating the scenes. The music director kept throwing songs into the scenes, at random moments.

I lost respect for Xuan Lie when he became a lovesick puppy. The scenes were overkill. He did better as the overlord Wolf Lord. That was his ambition for so long, but once he achieved the status, he then threw it away. He should have appointed his replacement for the Xuan clan when he decided to remain in Yannan as Mr Jun. (LOL)

The only positive thing she possessed, was her knowledge of poisons and antidotes. She could have become an entrepreneur in Bexuan and Yannan.

He acted like an excited bridegroom, thinking Qiluo was behind the veil. It was a marriage of convenience. She wasn't going to cuddle with him.

Th wrap up encounter was very bland writing. It implied they were meeting one year later, but Xuan Lie was familiar with his twin sons. They probably ran out of time to film a wedding scene and the birth of the twins. Oddly, Luo Qi was running back to his beloved, one year later. Why would they be separated that long? It doesn't take a year from Beixuan to Yannan.

It was one year later, so she had twins, who might be four months old? I guess they are living together as husband and wife in the Uncontrollable (...a stupid name), and he goes back to Beixuan for clan and royal meetings, and she goes back to Yannan for clan and royal meetings.

ML became a clingy matrilocal husband, until he had to return to Beixuan to protect King Xuan.

I didn't expect another Journey to Love drama model. Everlasting Longing became daily filler for me.

The ending was yet another quick wrap up. It seemed that they had reunited one year later which would be a ludicrous gap in time. The director and writer did not feel obligated to show the Xuan Lie and Qiluo's little babies, or explain the fate of the orphaned Prince Qi. King Xuan might not be the biological father.

Qiluo's plan of separating the twins seems calculating and impersonal. She was already planning their career paths. Send one to Yanan for weapon design and business training, and train one to be the wolf lord. So much for maternal instincts!

My expectation from the start, was that they would have a happy ending. When Qimin died for no good reason, I was not surprised, but still disappointed in the writing.

Except Qimin! 😏
