This one really didn't resonate with me, which is a pity as I was really looking forward to it. The actors were obviously trying, but I felt like the script was working against them: not much happens, too many flash-backs to earlier scenes, and the storyline doesn't really hold up. I was expecting a sweeping drama with a romance and yearning that surpassed time and death (and several lifetimes for the FL), but there was very little concrete romance in the modern portion of the story, so by the time they become a couple, the feelings didn't really come off as convincing. The characterisation gets derailed too (they are very incurious about the past and the main villain and waste loads of time not looking into any of it), elements introduced earlier fall by the wayside (FL's fighting abilities just disappear) and there's inconsistencies (like famous celebrity ML only gets recognised at random moments in the plot but other times wanders around incognito as he pleases). I would have loved to have seen what this could be with a better storyline and script, because this sort of drama has been done really well before, with much greater emotional resonance.
So excited for this! Would love to see Bai Lu or Li Mo Zi as Shen Miao and Li Xian, Liu Xue Yi, or Yang Yang as Xie Jing Xing, but I'm sure whoever is cast will be great.
I thought this show was tremendous fun. It's silly, light-hearted, and skips over a lot of the angst you usually get in dramas. If you like silly shows where you don't have to take anything too seriously, then it's really enjoyable. Cheered me up in lockdown and I really liked the way JCW and KYJ played off each other.
Me too.. actually many scenes can be more good if they know how to show it
Exactly! There was definitely a lot of potential, especially in the second half of the drama, that they didn't fully develop. I almost felt like the action got in the way of the romance, if that makes sense? Every time I thought, *finally*, they'll have a moment, something happened to interrupt it. The last ep could have used more time to wrap things up, too. But I really liked the cast and all the intrigue and the plot twists, and how fast-paced the story was.
I liked this, but I would have liked it even better if it had more fluffly romantic moments too. The king was really annoying and frustrating, though - kept making trouble for everyone and missing super obvious things.
I just saw that too - really hoping that's a mistake! (Or that they mean 1 Jan 2020, not Dec 2020) :(
Oh same! That would be a whole extra year - too cruel! Since seeing the trailer, the wait is killing me already, and I forgot even to consider the subs! :(( Honestly my whole plan for this Dec was to make time to binge it.
This is a very cute and light-hearted comedy - enjoying it so far.
Very puzzled about the setting though: it seems to be a university, but they have things like school uniforms, school-style class structure, everyone rising to greet the prof (teacher?), which is a bit distracting...
