I don't really hate the ending, although I am not really a fan of endings where the leads did not end up as couples, or that they have a teary, sad, heart-wrenching moment. I am a bit optimistic though that the two will meet once again and rekindle their love, hoping that when that day comes, the two of them are already mature and strong enough to show their love and fight for it.
By the way, whenever I encounter homophobic parents or parents who push their children to choose between family or their homosexual partner (in dramas and real life), I always tell and remind myself to never do such a thing to my own kid. So what if he's my only son? When they get married, I will have 2 sons (or a son and a daughter-in-law if the partner is a transwoman), which, in my own opinion, is much better and merrier!!!!

This episode made me wish for a spin-off movie, not necessarily season 2. A spin-off where I can watch them be so happy and content being a couple! Because, dude, I cannot accept the fact that they can finally be together for a very short amount of time in episode 12!!!!!
But does the ex still love him? Or is he just trying to push Lei and Yuzhen into action?? I think he already knew Yuzhen is slowly moving on but the pain he felt from his last break up is still there, preventing the 2 (Lei & Yuzhen) to get together. I think the ex is just trying to be the catalyst for the 2 to get together (which we will be seeing in ep 12, for 10 mins).
