My one gripe is Aqua's death. I get it, I understand why it made sense for his internal monologue and the way he understood his place and "mission" in Ai's and Ruby/Sarina's life, but everything else fit together so well that his death felt kind of out of place and unnecessary. Not enough to tarnish the movie though, I still really enjoyed it.
I ended up really liking this. I didn’t read the manga or watch the anime, so the live action drama was how I was exposed to this story, and I thought this movie wrapped it up really nicely. Way better than I was expecting, to be honest.
The TV drama really gripped me. I didn’t know a lot about the world of idols, and since the drama's twisted and unvarnished story was my first real exposure to it all, I was particularly fascinated, and I've been excited to see how they would conclude everything. There were a couple of very satisfying “ah ha!” moments for me during the movie, which fleshed out the drama in hindsight and made it even richer.
The overall style, especially how they overlapped and swapped interviews in the ‘documentary’ with ‘real’ cuts of Ai’s interviews, was a brilliant way to tidily wrap everything up.
Is this related to the tv series? or is this a stand alone movie?
It apparently wraps up the plot of the TV series. It's supposed to be released on Amazon in Japan on April 18th, so I'm really hoping it comes with English subs. I've been eagerly waiting to see how they finish the story.
Nagano Mei's personal life is nobody's business.
