I've never witnessed anything so stupid and irresponsible, the idea of a baby was the biggest mistake they could…
I completely disagree with this sentiment. I don't believe it was Meiko's intention to break the two up, I believe that's clearly demonstrated by her desire to reconnect with Makki and her genuine disinterest in sexual or romantic affiliation with either of the two male leads. To me it seemed like her desire was platonic, although selfish, she wanted to integrate herself firmly in their relationship because she held a desire for familial bonds. By having the baby she presented an opportunity for her to have an irrefutable connection to the two, forsaking her own personal disconnection with sexual conduct so that the three of them could be happy together. Obviously this plan was awful and dually fuelled by Meiko's desire to hold on to the throuple and Eiji's internalised homophobia and desire to be normal while still desiring Makki. Ultimately though Meiko's intentions were pure and it were Eiji's choices that got him trapped. Eiji was the one who decided to ignore and play of Makki's feelings. Eiji was the one who decided that the two would get married. Eiji was complicit when Meiko tried to convince Makki it was his kid, pushing the idea that they should be looking out for Meiko. Makki needed attention and love from Eiji but he didn't reciprocate and was instead far too focused on the Meiko, only after Makki left did they even consider the baby itself, the care that would have to go into taking care of it and the fact they brought it into the world for selfish reasons. Meiko and Makki were still young, 18 I believe, and Eiji was at least 24 it was his fault they went through with having the baby and didn't account for Makki's position in it all. Meiko was only desperate to hold onto the only familial connections she felt she had left while Eiji tried to have both.
