Just feeling weird, how can their house be fully burnt when they have hired ample of security guards?
When Prince Xian's men came, they threw out all the help out of the house while they went on that rampant search for the Sixth Prince. When it was reported they couldn't find him inside, the eunuch declared the house to be burnt. At that point, all the guards and help were still outside the house. And basically they could not action in front of Prince Xian's men.
As an African I’m no stranger to parents who cross boundaries or go to extremes in the name of love for their…
It's definitely delusion that is driving everything that is happening here. Or a filter. Like the mother is truly blind to all the happenings in her surrounding. Or even deaf to everything she hears. It's kinda like she sees it, or hears it but it vanishes in the next moment. Her greed is for a more financially abled situation for her children, her daughter especially, more than it ever was for her. But like she was the one to make her bed, so why lament over it now. She's extremely stubborn. It is definitely like him having money makes him the best candidate, all the other disadvantages that come with being with him are overshadowed by the one singular fact that he does indeed have money to his name.
The actions of the mother have driven me crazy, but the actions of the father are just as bad because he just plays that role of a silent observer, and being silent is what is allowing those situations to escalate even more or as they have. Marriage is a partnership, no? So shouldn't both parents be working together when making decisions or coming to conclusions. Like I get the fact that his wife basically bulldozes her way into everything without being considerate, should the father not also take a step forward to work situations out rather than just sitting back. Being silent for so long is of no benefit to anyone. It's worse. And what feels more worse was him instead of lamenting the actions of her mother, he kinda comforted her through it.
It is as though no one has forced the mother to take note or responsibility over her own actions. She was being told not to blame herself, but I fully think she should blame herself and be told of her mistakes. She needs to own those actions. Obviously, that realization is yet to come. But I just saw a preview of the 20th episode, where she and her husband attend a meal at the hotel MCH is now managing, and she literally threw a tantrum there about how people in the service industry work because she got into it with the chef. And I'm angered. Clearly the daughter accepted her back to a certain extent, but why the hell are you showing up at her place of work and making a scene and acting as if you've been rich for generations and generations. Cause fyi, she has not been. Like that attitude is such a turn off, cause just like two weeks ago maybe you have been a part of that same social standing for so long. So should you not best understand the individuals. Should you not be the one to have the most respect as that is where your roots are. I'm saying you, but I mean it towards the mother, not anyone reading. I think I could spend a day ranting over the parents in that family, and I still would not have said enough.
Also the acting is definitely good, I do not think I have felt this angered in a really long time over a show.
I think you are not seeing this through the lens of culture and time period, which is what the show is trying…
To add on to the discussion regarding taking Fudong as a concubine, the way I understood Hua Jing's reason was that as you mentioned she wanted to leverage her privilege in her family by giving her husband something he wanted. That would possibly alleviate some of the abuse she has been receiving. The other reason being there is already another concubine at her place who is more favoured, especially as she either had a new male child or is about to give birth. So in that household, there is a much more favoured individual, one more favoured than the legal wife. What that could mean is that many of the servants in that house are probably the concubine's or only listen to her. Taking a concubine or maid form the Hua household would essentially increase the number of people in her control, a helping hand of sorts even if it is not what that new maid (Ie. Fudong) would want to be doing. Hua Jing feels like she has lost control of the household, that she does not have any place and it is because she desires that power, cause she does seem power hungry, and the respite that might come along with it, that she is fighting to get a maid or concubine from the Hua family. Getting a maid from the Song household to be her husband's new concubine will prove futile especially if that maid serves or is considered an individual of the already favoured concubine. One, that favoured concubine probably would not allow for her maid to become his concubine, and two, if she did allow it, she would still have the upper hand, since the new concubine is one of her own people.
Having watched a couple of historical dramas, especially, Minglan, this is what I have ended up learning from them with respect to house politics in the women's court at least.
Wasn’t it in the dialogue though? That’s what I saw in the beginning of 17 previews. A novel reader gave me…
Apparently by the looks of it, she is going to find out from the male lead himself after having questioning his true identity in the 20th episode. No wonder they showed tears on the calendar for the episodes airing Wednesday. Combined with what happens to Grandma, many are going to be crying.
