I was actually on that bedroom scene when I wrote the above comment lol! By this point, he knew that his first wife was innocent because Makiko had already confessed in front of everyone that she had something to do with the fire.
I thought the doctor was finally going to man up and report her to police, but instead she seduces him and that's all it took to get him to overlook her crime and then he defends her in front of the press. Madness!
The father is quite possibly the worst, most pathetic and weakest character I've ever seen in a drama. Makiko could turn him into a cuck and he would happily agree!
