Revealed way too much way too early. Romance shouldn't have even existed, it was barely present. Ending wasn't as satisfying as expected. "Badass female lead" is also misleading. The trailer makes her look like that but she's never that except once, such a let down. SYJ was pushed to the sideline fairly quickly....wasted potential.
This film is 6/10 and really not worth watching. 7.8 rating for this should be criminal, these people writing…
The fox kills himself at the end and turns into a fox forever to save his friend. Before he does that he doesn't even kill the demon who killed his friend, simply because the friend told him to "be good". I don't see how killing an evil demon makes him bad....but sure. Not to mention the scholar's love interest dies for no reason at all. And there's just lame slapstick comedy everywhere in the first half.
Nothing in this is worth watching, not even the CGI fight at the end because the fight doesn't end properly. The script is so badly written and carried by good CGI. Just don't bother wasting time because it's not worth the CGI.

Comments are saying there's it's very light romance, no kisses and apparently the FL kisses the ML while knowing he has a girlfriend, so there's cheating too? How much of this stuff is true
If you look at the original comic she is exactly what Wang Wu is so I don't think they could have casted someone…
Unfortunately sometimes even the writers can't do anything against multi-million company pressure. So sad. Oh dang, breaking that contract would be heavy then, I see why they sued.
S1 had a pretty good budget for a comedy show so if S2 has a bigger one then that's going to be completely amazing! Yes me too, sooner they film the faster it releases. I hope most of the cast stays same like liu li, wang lu, and the spirit sect masters, I keep seeing that C-Dramas change castings for sequels a lot. The only member im worried won't return is Yun Fan actor because of the controversy you mentioned.
I did some googling after your comment and it is explained haha, good news there. Might have to read the comic to get a better connection of everything too. Because i was just waiting and waiting for wang lu to say he's from here but nope. It's weird though, aren't like 70% of C-Dramas to do with reincarnation. Do they all not mention it then haha

Oh wow! No wonder if felt like they were getting spotlight for the sake of it! Because after that liu li was just gone until the end of the drama. I completely agree with those complaints, im glad others said it too. Because i would also prefer more antics between the wang couple even if non romantic. It just helps develop their relationship better. Oh no, i feel bad for the actor that's harsh, probably wasnt even his choice. It sounds like he ran into so much bad luck all at once :( poor guy. Destroyed by audience and company. I haven't read the comics but usually when adaptions follow the source they're way better so im excited to hear S2 will follow it!! Im really looking forward to it now because i miss xu kai's wang lu.
Oooooh!!! REALLY?! Wow that makes this so much better! Because it makes sense how wang wu can fall in love so fast again. The censorship thing must be the same as time travel censor then. I guess that part was hinted when Ouyang Shang was born out of Wang Lu's body in the dream? Instead of just appearing as a separate entity from the start. Thanks a lot for this information, it makes me feel a lot better about the experience ^^ probably will re-rate it to 8-8.5/10 now.

I never really got used to pinna's face sadly, it sounds shallow but she just wasn't pretty enough. But Yeah it's definitely more for fans of stephen chow because of comedy. Also I didnt know this drama was that popular then! That makes me happy but also sad because I know I'll have to see Hai Yun Fan's evil arc.
And I meant bad writing, i dont know why i wrote plot holes that's my fault. Its just that the serious parts were all a headache. Liu li's ending was already weird with the split personality but it worked but then they demolished Ling's part. The ending to their story was a circus act to me, too much forced melodrama. And lastly i feel that Wang Lu should have been Ouyang Shang's reincarnation. The writer used a lot of bad tropes in the show but missed out this very good one xD just felt wrong to me.
Jade Dynasty movie with Xiao Zhan had tv series called Legend of Chosen aka Noble Aspiration very good .Chinese…
Thank you so much you kind soul! I've been desperately failing at finding these on MDL haha
Xu kai seems to be part of 90% of this specific genre lmao, any reason for this?
Edit: for anyone else about to start any of these, legend of awakening and world of fantasy are tragedies T_T proceed with care. And Dance of the Phoenix has an "open" annoying ending I read.
Anyone have recommends of CDrama similar to this with happy endings? Where they start by joining one of many sects, involving cultivation powers. For example the movie Jade Dynasty. Basically a sect cultivation story with romance/action.
Rate it 8 after having some problems cleared up. It's light, funny but has a few annoying problems with writing. I would say for casual watch only if you want/like a funny show. Another warning, this show is very heavy on comedy and spoils a lot of serious moments. Oh and it's racist quite a few times to the black character Y_Y Ending was a big mistake. And for a 37 episode drama the romance was slow slower slowest burn possible. Which is stupid, if you have time use it. And it used a lot of cliché tropes that it shouldn't have.
P.S. the biggest mistake was trying to cast someone "exotic", pinna was really lacking compared to every other female in the show. I never got used to pinna's acting, her western facial features really don't support eastern mannerisms. It looked weird.
Oh thanks, don't think I'll waste my time on this then. That's a huge downer, sounds exactly like the type of ending that makes me turn a 10/10 into a 7-8/10. So sad that korean writers can't stop with these bad tropes

I'll check out that CGI thanks, didnt know they had that too.
Do wuxia have powers usually though? Like xianxia has magic usually that's why I love them.
