I understood everything cause this is the way things happen most of the time in real life... and at that age. Falling in love and expressing love does not come with a guiding book or rules. Everyone does what think is best and then work or learn from their mistakes... sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. That's life.

I identified with with both characters. They were so lonely and had their own personal issues. It is a miracle they got to open up to each other and work for their relationship to happen.

I do recommend that you read the manga. It does tells much more to the story and feels of it. If you don't want to read... here are some things that could help you understand the story.
The main leads never meet up after they graduate from highschool.
There is no Stockholm syndrome here. The long hair Mitsuo is indeed a full blown masochist. Long hair Mitsuo (lhM) is madly in love with short hair Mitsuo (shM) since he laid eyes on him and just accepted his bullying cause he loved him.
The scene where (shM) sleeps with (lhM) girlfriend explains much of their situation. (ShM) tells him he slept with his girlfriend. (LhM) calls her and tells her he already know what happened tells her that he isn't mad cause they were having problems and about to break up. He just asks her that they sleep together before they end everything. The girl accepts. Once they are at the hotel she is gonna shower but he tells her that no... that he wants her at that exact moment. The reason for this is cause she still has (shM) scent on her and while he is sleeping with her... he fantasies that he is actually sleeping with (shM).
Also they never did the whole thing. While in highschool (shM) only bullied (lhM). After they meet up again cause of the dead girl (lhM) is the one initiating the kissing... only to get beat up by (shM) or "punished" to suck him. Like (shM) says... (lhM) is a closeted pervert.
They finally "consummate" their relationship after the shooting incident when (shM) got his leg hurt. When (shM) is escaping and (lhM) finds him and decides to go as well (shM) gives in to (lhM) love and devotion asks if they would die together.
They escape to China... not Korea. And there is an extra chapter that shows them living in China happy together and they are still working for some group.
Also the cop with glasses never died or was shot by (shM). The one that (shM) "accidentally" killed (cause he was supposed to only scare them) was someone from the another gang. The cop has his own little side story with the gang leader.
I LOVED the movie and it was pretty close to the original story.
The manga is WAY darker cause it explains more about their complex relationship.
They switched the order of a few events on the movie... don't know why. They also missed some important dialogues and event that would have made the movie more complete.
If you haven't watched ANY of this I do recommend that you watch everything in one go if possible. By this I mean I told sunset about you, Las twilight in Phucket and I promised you the moon. You wont be disappointed.
Loved it. Everything was good. Well paced character development.
What I liked the most is that their relationship feels real. Their skinship, kisses, bed scenes feel real and natural not forced like many times in BL content. Cinematography was lovely. Felt like rewatching the 1st season.
I binged watch EVERYTHING.. short story and both movies... no regrets... only love and my heart just got down the emotional rollercoaster. It is unsteady and full of ideas... memories... mistakes right now. It was like talking with a friend... in total silence.
I identified with Toey so much that I laughed and screamed with him.
Indirectly "stalking". The confusion. The dragging your heart and drowning it in pain. Writing messages... deleting them... then sending and regretting. The part when he throws the phone to the water... yup... lol... what the hell... but yeah I get you... I see you. I SEE YOU!

Wish I could watch it remastered to enjoy all the colors, crisp and cleanness of the opera parts.
Great story, superb actors... many emotions entangled. Also so much history told in this movie.
