It wasn't just to help the ex. She needed to pay him back what she owed to have closure fro that relationship, but she also cared greatly for the ex's mother as she had been good to her over their 7-8 year relationship...almost like having her own mother...and who would not want that lend their kind 'parent' money to have a transplant to live.
