Title Romantics Anonymous Spoiler
Hello, my Romantic Anonymous rant with spoilers:
Romantic Anonymous was such a hard watch for me, because I had high levels of expectations. I think it was not the best for me to come from watching Fated Hearts, which set certain standards. It was not the best moment to watch Romantic Anonymous, which I had been waiting for for such a long time, because one of the screenwriters and the directors were the ones that worked on my favorite Japanese drama, Soshite Ikeru, and the other screenwriter worked on one of my favorite K-dramas, Splash Splash Love. My major gripe with this drama is the way that the unrequited love was handled. I could understand a 20-year-old woman acting that way, but not a grown woman or people in their 30s and 40s. I also did not like how the disorders were handled. This coming from a person like me that has suffered from the male leads and the female leads disorders when I was a child. I understand getting disorders triggered from the loss of a loved one, like mine were. I did not like the way they were handled. The actors, I guess, did their best, but the female lead, I definitely did not like how she handled her disorder. I found that it was only convenient at the moment that she wanted to express her love or confess to the person that she liked. I found that, like, how in the world you're six episodes in and she hasn't been able to confess her love, and all of a sudden this random story comes up, this guy has been single for, like, forever, and this lady just magically appears, and he likes this lady. I'm sorry. I didn't find anything romantic about that.I felt no pity or connection to the character of Irene the psychiatrist, she obviously did not take her own therapy and was extremely unprofessional .I really dislike half hearted feelings and this drama did that with the storyline of urequited love. I would have rather they did not have this storyline if they were not going to add believable nuances to it. It undermined the beauty of the drama, handled differently it could have overall enhanced the story. Like the way they did handle[mind you in a flashback] the way her confession was done. Let's talk about the actors, Oguri Shun, Akanishi Jun, and Han Hyo Joo. These three were the soundtracks of my 20s. Akanishi Jun did Bandage and Anego. Han Hyo Joo for Shining Inheritance, and W and Oguri Shun from Rich Man, Poor Woman and Hanazakari no Kimitachi e/ Hana Kimi ,which was my first dorama. All those drama/movies are favourites of mine that had an impact in my life and I still rewatch. So YES, I took this drama personally. I cannot deny that. So, for me, it was a major turn-off and disappointment the way the unrequited love was handled. Again, coming from a person that has gone through these disorders to a minor level, it does not mean that your emotional intelligence or your intelligence is out the door just because you have a disorder. Otherwise, people wouldn't be able to form families, to have children, stuff like that. So, you're going to tell me that by episode 6, she couldn't confess her like to someone that she stalked, took kendo classes from, knows where he works/lives. She saw him through binoculars and she couldn't confess her like for him?. Also, the role of Hiro-San, what was it that she fell drawn to? I understand he saved her in her lowest moments [although since it was truc-kun she would have gotten isekaid] But what was it that she liked about him so much? And we didn't see that. And you're going to tell me that, out of nowhere, some random lady that everybody else is connected to, right? She is his love. She is the one he likes. He didn't notice that this other girl liked him. That was a major turn-off for me. I couldn't let go of that. I just couldn't.On another note, I did like how the romance of what ML felt for the FL. I think that was perfectly handled. You could see how he felt for her, how he cared for her feelings, how it developed. Now that is something that I would expect for the type of disorder that he has at the maturity of his age. I think that was handled beautifully, the way he took care of his feelings. And of course, Oguri-san as an actor did not disappoint in conveying the lines, the mannerisms, and the emotions of the character.
If I were to go with what this drama portrayed, then people with disorders can only be and only be understood by people with disorders? So was this Romantics Anonymous or Stalkers Anonymous? And when they pulled that cliché card of the guy too drunk to know whom he was holding on to and kissing, I almost blew a gasket. In conclusion, anger was mostly my feelings while watching this drama.
It had mostly really outstanding qualities in general but there are things that meant to much for me to let go of.
The way the stories were portrayed around the chocolate, that was beautiful. The cinematography, the soundtrack, but again, I wouldn't expect anything less from this director. Those things carried this drama beautifully and makes it stand out from others. That beautiful connection and plot twist at the end with Kenji's wife really was amazing! It also had impeccables first and final episode.I truly enjoyed Kenji's and HaNa's relationship and wished we could have seen more of that. I really like the world Kenji-san created for his employees, suppliers and customers. That was awesome! And who would not like to have a Le Saveur just around the corner? For me it would be a perfect 10 if I was the me in my teens/20's or if it was just the chocolate and leads story without the urequited love wanna be story, which I understand they thought they needed for that plot twist for the connection between leads to the past, for the me now this is a 8 out of 10.
P.S. If anyone knows the scoop of the cameos at the end, because it seemed like they knew each other from another story or it refetenced something?please do share if you know.

And I read that supposedly besides this drama not being promoted it had a very low budget🤯confimring that quantity does not equal quality. Producers should take note from this drama , Go Princess Go & DPR Ian's music videos. You are able to produce beautiful quality with a tight budget.
