This drama is so underrated that it didn't even make it to the top ten korea Nielsens rating list. Shame.
I just went to check and it's true - the ratings are so low. I don't really care for it though, I just hope it won't make the creators cut this drama shorter than it was planned for and I hope they'll finish the story just as well as it's developing now. For me, it's finally a great drama after a few months of average ones.
I really can't get behind this whole "Bok Soo is a hero for kicking down the glass" sentiment, that was such a…
In my opinion, this drama has a strong commentary on S.Korea's educational system in general. It shows the struggle the kids have to face in schools (with the hierarchical system and pressure from family, teachers and classmates) and when they can't handle it anymore (as the guy who locked himself in the glass booth), people see them as misbehaving rather than seriously troubled and needing help. Even the teachers wouldn't help him, because it might cost them their good reputation among their colleagues or boss. We see Son Soo Jeong in the latest episode (7-8) saying she wants to help the kids rather than turning a blind eye. But in the end, it's Bok Soo who symbolicly breaks the glass and actually wants to help and encourage the kid. Yeah, the glass wall is just something you can pay for and maybe get a small punishment for, but everyone is making such a big deal of it because the glass booth is the very embodiment of the hierarchical system that actually physically separates the students, since only the kids with highest grades (or the rich ones) can sit and study there. Even Se Ho and his mother agreed that breaking the glass shows the students how easily breakable the school system is, thus wanting to expell Bok Soo. I feel like this drama is using somewhat literal and dark humor to show how flawed the educational system in Korea actually is. I haven't experienced it myself, since I'm not from Korea, but I've heard a lot about it, so this is my interpretation. It might be wrong, but feel free to agree or disagree.
Even though this is a Korean drama, I really like that it's situated in Spain. It's Korean actors and production, but with the European atmosphere surrounding them, which feels pleasantly familiar to me, since I'm from Europe. The plot and characters are interesting and captivating, I'm still holding onto hope that this won't get dull/bad as the drama continues.
Finally the score that this drama deserves so far. Thank you MDL.
I keep checking the score of this drama here because I think this show is so good and I can't understand why it'd have a lower rating than 8.5. I'm glad it's gone up again :')
Quick summary of my thoughts about this drama: Very well filmed; great characters; gets a bit dull around the middle but picks up the pace again at the last 5 eps or so; cried angry tears at the end because I hated the ending; still can't decide whether to give this 9.0 or 9.5 or even something else...
Overall this drama left a strong impression, but even after more than 2 months I still wonder whether it's positive or negative. I'm very puzzled.
So far (after watching the first 2 eps) I really love this! The gaming part is really cool to watch for me, the main characters are interesting and I'm excited to see where the plot will take us. I hope nothing goes wrong with the quality of the writing/storytelling later on, because I really want to love this drama all the way to the end. We'll see, fingers crossed.
