Death ED, aka the best modern Asian drama of recent years

When I decided to watch this drama because of its lead actor, I wasn’t prepared for what was coming. Small Town Remedy is a wonderful mix of medical cases, comedic situations, tragic fates and human connections.

But at the heart of its exploration is our relationship with life and death. Do you fear dying? Or do you fear living?

The main character, Liu Zhengliang, is so afraid of death that he almost stops enjoying life. He and the other characters gradually learn to live, make peace with their losses and cherish life for what it is.

The script is utterly unpredictable. It takes you from pure joy to unconditional compassion at the most unexpected moments. The acting is exceptional across the board, with everyone, from the younger actors to a powerhouse like Ni Dahong, giving their all to bring their characters to life.

Small Town Remedy is undoubtedly one of the most touching, unique and sincere Asian dramas in recent years. I thought they didn’t make them like this anymore. I’m glad I was wrong.

Watch it if you’re looking for a remedy.
