In the novel his mother actually was bad maid who knowingly killed her fellow maid who happened to be pregnant with his father's child... His mother died after giving birth to him ig... The entire family thinks that he will also become 'evil' like his mom... And there was also a demo of his evilness in the novel when he was young... And this explains the behaviour of the family... And about grandma... She thinks he is tooo 'cunning' and doesn't want to bother herself with him.... That's how it was in the novel

Then I would suggest you read novel because I found it more entertaining and novel has also touched the boundaries which chinese dramas never would.... Drama is actually mediocre compared to the novel they have twisted the storyline sooo much just to get pass... Can't blame them...
