Question for everyone: despite the disappointing ending, is it still worth finishing? I'm currently on episode…
It’s a pretty easy watch overall. The ending isn’t the best, but it’s still enjoyable enough if you just want something light while eating or relaxing.
Someone really needs to find a loop hole in these type of c-drama ending. No matter what drama you watch in this genre, all of them end the same. The classic smile with no originality and no explaination.
Honestly, I’m amazed at how easily they’ve adapted full vintage : no phone, no AC, no fridge, not even a decent bed 😭 Like guys, you’re finally making money but can’t even spend it right. And don’t get me started on niece’s “education.”
I am so confused as to why it's such a big deal that 1,000 years ago the ML was the Shen family's ancestor? I…
Genetically, it’s really not a big deal, after a thousand years, those genes are long diluted with all the mixing that’s happened since. The real problem would be if she ends up with her ancestor, doesn’t that mess with her family existing in the first place? grandfather paradox!
I’m like 90% sure that in the end, A Yuan will take Shen as her surname, and then Liu Chang might marry her so the whole lineage ends up being “Shen.” That would explain why the portrait at the beginning is of the FL and ML...they’re A Yuan and Liu Chang’s masters, and their portrait was kept in the ancestral hall out of respect.
As for the main leads’ ending, I have a strong feeling it’ll follow the classic C-drama time travel route she’ll wake up in the hospital, see an ML lookalike, they’ll share a smile, and boom… no deep explanation. 😭✨
Honestly, I ended up enjoying the Emperor and Princess arc way more than the main leads’ enemies-to-lovers story. They tried to sell the male lead as this dark, complex “grey” guy, and then boom...halfway through he’s just another soft green forest C-drama dude. Meanwhile, the Emperor was out here being the actual morally grey icon, treating everyone like trash while the Princess dragged him through the mud right back. Their chaos had flavor. Peak toxic royalty behavior and I was living for it.
I don’t actually hate anyone. Not even the villains. Like, I get it why Murong father-son duo rebel. Everyone’s got a reason, a story, a breaking point. But the emperor? Oh, I despise that man. He’s the only one who really earned my hatred. Imagine being king and still failing to protect your own wife. Imagine having loyal people around you and just taking them for granted like they’re disposable. He’s the definition of useless power...all title, no brain. And honestly, I still don’t get how he managed to become emperor in the first place. Did he trip and fall onto the throne? Because cunning? Strategy? Common sense? Nowhere to be found. The man’s so dumb it’s almost impressive.
I’m really enjoying this drama... the story, the characters, everything! But weirdly, the romance scenes feel boring? I actually find myself skipping them 😅
Honestly, MY’s revenge did make sense, I totally get where he was coming from. If it was just him acting on his own pain, I’d be rooting for him all the way. But once it became clear he was being used by people chasing power more than justice, it kinda lost its heart. And that ending?? ML could’ve at least acknowledged that he’d try to bring justice for MY and his father, maybe make up for his father’s mistakes. But instead, he just walked away, still stuck in his own world, refusing to truly see their suffering. He hated his father for so many years because of his mother's death, he should have been able to relate to MY's pain.
FL looks too old for ml, she looks like his auntie or what, why can't they find younger looking actress 🙂↔️
Of course she looks older, she is older. She’s a high-ranking person in the army, not some fresh recruit. A baby-faced actress wouldn’t exactly scream “battle-hardened authority.” The maturity makes the role believable.
ML’s sister agreeing to marry a stranger from the enemy side… peak stupidity. But if she were the main lead, suddenly it’d be ‘enemies to lovers’ and everyone would be shipping it. The universe is so unfair to side characters.
tbh, both ML and FL deserve each other. Let’s not act like FL is some saint just because of her tragic past. Do I sympathize with her childhood? Yes. Does that erase the fact that she’s manipulative and used ML just as much as he used her? No. Everyone’s dragging ML for manipulating her and faking love, but didn’t FL play the exact same game? Neither of them are “good” people, and that’s the point. They’re toxic, they’re manipulative, and that’s why they’re a perfect match.
I already couldn’t stand the brother, but ML just letting his siblings dump all the blame on him? Nah, that was weak. He should’ve snapped back and reminded them that they didn’t believe him and wasted precious time, so the delay in rescuing their parents is on them, not him. Stop playing the silent martyr and start calling out the clowns.
The only real villain in this drama is the ML’s brother. Like… this man does absolutely nothing but somehow manages to stop everyone else from doing anything either. He’s got all this authority but zero brains, and the people under him are basically unsafe just because he exists. A whole roadblock in human form, useless and dangerous. Just dead weight with power.
