1 Litre of Tears appreciation post
Wow, just wow what an experience.
I’ve been into Japanese media for a long time but I’m only now getting into Dramas/live action, this is my third, I watched you are the apple of my eye like 8 years ago and it was good and I watched Drawing Closer last week and it was amazing.
I’m honestly blown away by good this was, practically perfect, the acting was sooo on point, I honestly can’t imagine watching this with a different cast (which I know isn’t really true but some actors bring their roles to life in such a way it feels true), the soundtrack was phenomenal, “Kanayuki” makes me cry every time and probably will for a long time, “only human” was so fitting and beautiful, “sangatsu kokonoka” also breaks my heart, especially the live version from THAT scene, the directing was great and the overall tone I thought was perfect.
Something I love is that they didn’t shy away in sharing this experience, sure, they likely held back a little and added some stuff to make it watchable, this is a drama after all and if it was his depressing for 99% of the run time that would be tough, but i think they still did such an amazing job of conveying what she went through and her genuine experiences, i can relate to Aya in some of her feelings and thoughts, she really resonated with me, so the fact this is a true story just makes it all the more heartbreaking, the pictures at the end of episodes, quotes such as “but… what I really wanted them to say was “Aya please don’t go” “ these are things that broke my heart and will stick with me forever.
There were soooo many memorable scenes, her goodbye speech and send off from school was amazing but I think my very favourite scene was Ako getting angry and defending her on her behalf, I tear up just thinking about it.
I’d love some recommendations based on this show! something that you think is better or more sad.
Honestly this was a once in a life time media experience, even tho I’m still so new to dramas, I reallyyyy don’t think this will ever be topped for me, it’s probably the saddest thing I’ve ever watched (and I watch so much sad stuff) I was honestly crying for 11 episodes straight, 1 litre was an understatement. I never thought a jdrama would become my all time favourite piece of media but here are…
Rest in peace Aya. Thank you for sharing your experience, 38 years later and your life is still having an impact on people and helping them.
