Female lead cant be reborn if she dies accidentically, she shld die at natural death by old age for her to be reborn. So thats the reason y the male lead has to protect her for 3 lifetime. The male lead has to wait for her for fourth life since the Dragon king has fulfilled the wish of the female lead to save her mistress from death where in he has to steal the soul of the mistress at pavillon. But at act of getting the soul, a condition was made here, for him to get the soul, he shld marry the mistress until 3 lifetime. Dragon king cant do anything but to agree since if the mistress will die, female lead will die too as they promise each other that if one of them will die, so the other too

You did not understand the story right? Female main lead was the Dragon King's savior, in order to repay her kindness for saving him, Dragon King wants to fulfill any wishes of the FML. At that time(First life) Female Main Lead's mistress accidentally encounters a demon which results to her death. Female lead wished for Dragong King is to save her mistress. Dragon King came to Lord of Pavillon inorder to get the soul of FMl's mistress but there's a condition here. For the dragon king to get the soul, he should marry fml's mistress and protect her for three life time. Thats the reason y thr main lead cant be together for three lifetime
