The production scale was the best and biggest for C-dramas I've seen by far. My favourite scenes were when the ML with the army returns in both the beginning and end. The worst was the stupid Princess choosing a stranger over her own blood but when she regretted it, it was too late. Enjoyed the first ⅔ of the show but the last ⅓ seemed like unnecessary filler episodes. The story should've ended after the ML exposed the Prime Minister and the Marquis father/son. He should've then let his emperor father abdicate the throne to him instead of being difficult, he could've saved his father and sister earlier on.
Good cinematography but RAGEBAIT story. Everyone in this story including the ML were scum except the female lead who survived only because of her intelligence.
"I may love him but I will never let him know." This single line explains the annoying tension between the lead characters and led to so many unnecessary misunderstandings.
I couldn't understand why the FL continuously hurt the ML by rejecting him continuously even though she loved him. She had no right to reject the king but he respected her wishes and even protected her. But even after all that she refused to accept their feelings for each other not out of fear but out of pride. "An act of bravado" she called it as though she was selfish and cared not for how she made him feel. I'd usually look past this annoyance but this so called "act of bravado" lasted almost the entire story and kind of ruined the story especially towards the end. Don't forget that she was given a chance to leave the palace that the maids had to work in for the rest of their lives but she chose to go back to the palace and what happened to her in the end may have been out of her hands but it was her own choices that brought about her end. This could've all been avoided if only she had not rejected being concubine in the first place then he wouldn't have been forced to have another concubine/queen to produce an heir. Having refused to be concubine, she should've known to stay out of his sight or better yet out of the palace.
