But had it been a prince then yes because after all the late king had two sons if prince cheng had been sent that would be a different story because there would be two possibilities 1 the king would basically be tied to being good to him because he sacrificed for the country, the officials would not want anything bad happening to him in that kingdom because should anything happen to the king prince cheng would succeed him. 2 cheng himself could have a real backer because dai's king could maybe warm up to him and form alliance to try and dethrone the current king. Overall l don't think taking wanning as a hostage to Dai kingdom makes sense in a political way because her being a hostage already means that yan kingdom lost a war and as amends for that kingdom to know their alligency to him he would need someone that would turn the tables should Yan kingdom try to do otherwise like rebel from Dai to declare themselves as a sovereign Dai should have something to turn the tables and like u said in eastern culture the throne was passed to the male lineage only so wanning would be useless for a Trump card and for that l think this is a weak spot in my opinion cause had cheng being in Dai and wanning here winning the court officials that would be the true game plan for rebellion
