That's not correct. The ideal in some Eastern cultures was the male being like 15 and the woman being around 17. While women did marry older men, the first marriages happened when both were very young.
Even in 1800s and earlier Europe, most men and women were within 4 years when they married. Also, the legal age of marriage in England was 14, but that was super rare. The ancient people weren't stupid, most girls married close to 20.
