They didn't show how. What they did show was that he has despite all the odds just to be with XY3.
If you still want to know i would speculate by sealing the powerful kunlun mirror in himself. it gave him some power to time travel or reverse time like XY can. After all sealing the mirror in ones body has never been done before. He was the only most powerful demon capable of doing this. The kunlun mirror pieces are made up of all the treasures that extremely powerful demon clans used to have 10000 years ago. All sealed in HY3's body now.
Past and present is not comparable to whether egg came first or the chicken came first problem. Past remain Past…

XY3 seems to think she experienced the lives of XY1 and XY2, but she actually created new XY1 and XY2 lives/deaths, and outside of her own memory of told history she presumably erased those periods of the original lives of XY1 and XY2.)
If we go by your understanding when XY3 travels back to her own body in ep 40, you mean to tell me she killed previous self in herself and by doing this it erases pervious memories. but that's not true, in the last scene, XY3 is very much alive in her body after travelling back to her own XY3 body and have memories of three lifetimes intact in her.
XY3 does not kill the XYs she possessed from the points she entered their body, instead she took over her old lives from that point on. Because the holy mother's voice in the array she should remember they are all you meaning that they are her previous lives (not some other person). Even their morals and principles according to all the events and people in the 1st and 2nd life shows yhat all XYs were mischievous, defenders of peace amongst races etc like princess ningan was being punished by the king for defending demons being a human princess long before XY3 entered her.
Also, it seems when XY3 enters XY1 or XY2's body they seems to coexist with xy3 visiting time and know everything that has happened during that time and share her knowledge, feelings, experiences, enlightenment, actions and decisions are their decisions too. Why do I persist on understanding it this way, the reason is in ( ep 2 at 5 ) where XM explained to HY3 that he saw XY2 kill herself with a sword right after everyone left and Xy said "meeting you was the best decision I have made in this life" that was XY2 and others were witnessing ending her life but in ep 30 at 32, XY3 (after king looses all the fragments of kunlun mirror) cries Hong ye! Only and does not say meeting you was the best decision in this life instead quickly collects his tear essence and as soon as she collects it the array is activated and she leave she did not lift any sword to kill XY2's body. This shows that after she left XY2 body, XY2 knew everything that happened when XY3 was in her, felt the lose of loosing HY2 and knows about her mother's history etc and decided to kill herself that what XM sees, he is unable to see Xy3 finding tear essence and entering the array.
In XY1 case its the same, XY3's behavior was so similar to XY1 that great demons who have spent 1000s of years with her and saw her growing up didn't see any changes in her behaviour, decisions, morals even when told she has lost her memories after becoming Azure dragon. Even when they are living with XY3 (10,000 years after their original life) in third life and know she is actually 3rd lifetime of XY1 they don't see her as a diffrent person but love her as much as XY1 before she was possesed by XY3.

Yes i agree ❤️❤️❤️ the fact that it was released over very short period of time ( 3 eps per day was terrible choice) impacted viewership of this drama. If it was released over 2-3 weeks it would have picked up more viewers, hype and better understanding. Before most people even started it, the drama ended and people who misunderstood the drama started to mislead the new viewers scaring them to drop the drama or not watch it before giving it proper chance. This is what i have been saying! Also, HY smiled at her in last scene (ep 40), while in the original scene (ep2) he was still learning to warm up to her and didn’t show any happiness to anyone. He started to warm up to XY only when she was drunk and asked to buy his smile with money when they were pouring their hearts out to each other on the roof top, because she wanted to see him smile in ep 7. And he started to show his emotions and smiles to her openly from ep 8 and starts to fall for her.
So why would HY if he doesn’t have his memories of this would warm upto XY, who he has just met in the last scene ( ep 40) and actually smile at her. It's obviously that he retains all the memories of his life time experiences with her. Its definitely a 2nd playthrough but this time with HY and XY knowing everything and about to go on journey to make changes they need to make to get the happy ending they deserve.

For a person travelling to past and makes changes will impact Past and present. If a person from present interacted with you in the past and remembers you (in Xy 3 case hy recognises she was the one who hosted Xy2's body for the while he interacted with her in 2nd life) they will certainly know the present you did came to the past. That person becomes point of reference and witness to you being present in the past( leaving a history of actions) and your present who is taking fresh and new actions. Then again if you travel back to point before to ever travelled the past and choose not to travel to past again to change the present timeline then the cycle breaks automatically.
The scene from last episode at 41:28 and same orginal scene from episode 2 38:54 is quite significantly different in terms expressions, feelings, knowledge of past lives, circumstances and dialouges. In original scene, most important of everything, Xy3 knows nothing of three lifetimes and Hy3 is barely acquainted with her, keeping his gaze on the floor dialogues suggesting he is just giving her princess bed with canopy because that's what he remembers XY2 sleeping in( is not convinced xy3 was xy 2 yet and is only sure by the time xy3 uses time reversal technique to go to past) And Xy3 hardly makes any eye contact with him either. The scene in the last episode not only Xy 3 has all the memories, HY3 gaze is locked with hers and talks with very serious familiarity to her, not like he has just met her and trying to get to know her. Also, when he said it's all negotiable its completely different sentence from original scene and nods his head and smiles at her letting her know its him and he knows . The moment he says that, XY3 who wasn't going to cry, goes a head and cries because she realized that he knows everything.
Even if we argue over HY3 is complete empty slate in last episode scene for some strange reason, XY3 has all the memories of three lifetimes, she can tell HY3 everything that happened before and both will not let the past repeat and then present will unfold how I explained before. They are very capable of making changes to present so past doesn’t repeat and consequently they break the cycle.

(Note: X3 only possesess X1 body from the time X1 becomes Azure Dragon not before, before its original X1, and while X3 possessed X1 body X1 is still in there too)
100 years ago from X3's time reference, again H2 doesn't have any knowledge of any lifetimes, X3 has only knowledge of 3rd lifetime in X2's body. Reason for visit to find out what happened to H2 and X2 and collect H2's tears. Mission completed and saved H3 and demon valley by returning his demon essence to h3 in case she failed H3 could have been killed in the present having no powers. She didn't change anything because she had no prior knowledge of what happened here and needed to do what she came to do to save H3. H2 dies, X2 kills herself with a sword( XM witnessed it) X3 returns to present. (Note: X3 only possesses X2 body from the time princess is locked up for defending demons. Before its original X2, while X3 possessed the body of X2, X2 is still in there with her)
Remembering each time body dies completely, memories are not passed to next life's body so X3 has traveled to past to explore her past 2 lives. H2 doesn't have past memories of H1 because H1 body died. H3 has memories of H2 because his premordial spirit was saved by XM. Originally he was supposed to sleep for 300 years but was woken up by X3 just 100 years after.
At present, H3 has memories of H2 and X2 and knows X3 was in X2's body in the last life. X3 has now collected all lives' memories. Then H3 finds out his H1 memories, he seals Kunlun mirror in himself.

Having affirmed with final scene dialogues, X3 and H3 knows that they have all memories of 3 lifetimes.
What would their next move be? they certainly would not fall in HW's dreamhard's, king's and feyue soldiers' traps then H3 would not loose his powers and would not need X3 to travel to 2nd life to get his powers again. They would not let HW to release 3 great demons so X3 doesn't need to travel to 10000 years ago again. BZ would not get powerful enough by not killing three demons (demons still sealed) to fight H3. No colossal fight. And hopefully they find another way to seal kunlun mirror having long time to explore the possibilities, since the emporer who is obsessed with immortality dies in few days anyway, next emporer is sensible. You see the cycle is already broken when they both find out all of their full memories. There is no way everything would repeat after this. At this point since X3 and H3 are alive and well they can solve the rest of problem in their current timeline. X3 never has to travel back to past again.
