I will never get tired of defending chang yu. She might be reckless at times but she's definitely one person you'll keep as ur most trust friend that for sure will never wrong u and will always defend and protect u even at the expense of her own life.

Probably, speaking up in that era could be deadly, but Chang Yu’s words weren’t provocative—they were purely defensive. The officials’ insults were sugarcoated as praise, and she returned the same flavor, choosing her words carefully. She wasn’t attacking anyone; she was protecting herself while staying clever and measured.

💯👌 Correct. They have a lot of complains about our FL.

When in fact she didn't change much.. If there is, it's probably becoz she lost some of her spark... She lost a lot of people. . The massacre did a toll on her.

I might agree that her actions might be too surprising for u to take but all her actions turns out to be the best choice.

Probably becoz the novel is really long.. This should be at least. 60+ or at least make it part 1 part 2.

Why wasn't the XZ rewarded anything after the battle? Only the Li guy and and CY?
If remember correctly... I don't think the reward is supposed to be good coz they basically wanted chang yu to be in court.. Idk the reason but there are schemes involve there.. The puppet Emperor can't even decide on his own so this reward this is probably a scheme..

So let’s talk about this because I’ve seen some people say that Chang Yu was arrogant in that court scene—and honestly, I don’t see it that way at all.

First, she entered the court properly. She showed respect to the Emperor, followed protocol, and spoke as politely as she could. There was nothing disrespectful about her attitude at the start.

Second, when the Emperor tried to flirt with her, she didn’t overreact or cause a scene. She simply and firmly reminded him that she has a husband. That wasn’t arrogance—that was dignity and setting boundaries.

Third, when she was granted the fourth-rank title, she accepted it respectfully and knelt as expected. Even if the Emperor was acting unseriously, she still carried herself with proper decorum because she understood the setting.

What really changed the tone was the officials. One by one, they started questioning and belittling her—doubting her abilities, mocking her experience, and disguising insults as compliments. At first, she didn’t even fight back. She endured it and responded with restrained, even sarcastic politeness. But they didn’t stop.

So when she finally spoke up, it wasn’t arrogance—it was self-defense. If she had stayed silent, it would have reinforced their belief that she was weak and easy to step on, especially as a woman in that era where women were already looked down on.

If we’re being honest and not biased, would someone like Xie Zheng stay silent in that situation? Of course not. He would push back—probably even more aggressively. We’ve seen how he deals with disrespect. The difference is, he has power and status. Chang Yu doesn’t, so she has to be even more careful—but that doesn’t mean she should just accept being humiliated.

She respected them first. She only spoke back when it became necessary. That’s not arrogance—that’s knowing her worth and refusing to be trampled.

Chang yu is defending herself. She didn't even say a word at the start. She only talk back when they start insulting her. Respect is earned.

It is not out of character coz since from the start, she don't let anyone belittle her jsut becoz she's a butcher... She tried to stay polite but they kept insulting her.. If Xie zheng is there, he would have done worst..

They tried to inject humour into this episode, but it fell flat for me. I used to find Fan Changyu’s attitude…
It's not arrogance.. She's basically defending herself. She can't let those officials insult her just becoz she's butcher. Respect is earned... If Xie zheng is there, he would do worst maybe, decapitate another official so don't take it a wrong way when chang yu talk back coz she didn't even say a word at the start, she only talk back when they start insulting her.

If she stayed quiet, those official will just belittle her, even Li wenkan didn't say a word when those officials insult her.. If it's Xie zheng, he would have done worst.

And if I remember correctly, she told Xie zheng she shouldn't have to go to war if he told her the truth..

The thing with Li Huai an is different, he's acting recklessly. He even admit it and apologize to chang yu that if it wasn't for chang yu stopping him, he would be dead.

U speak as if all her actions have bad intentions.. Sometimes following rules is not always the right things to do. A lot of people do bend rules for the sake of doing good.

I think he slit his throat, then the female gangster decapitated him so she could bring his head to changyu
I love to see her offer his head to chang yu.. Coz I still can't forgive him for the Li an village massacre.. Chef Li, constable wang and a lot of good hearted villagers who grew up with chang yu 😭😭😭

Since that massacre chang yu changed a lot and toughen.. Poor girl.
