Funny, upbeat, heartwarming with a happy end
Ok but can you believe that Lu Xing (who played the handsome Bai Yutang) in this drama was also in A Journey to Love as the escort official of the princess who suddenly pulled out a bow and arrow to defend her from enemies. How time flies...
This was made during the heyday of technicolor cdramas, but which I mean the costumes were ridiculous and unrealistic and super, super bright (the princess even exposes her legs! The scandal!). So obviously high-quality production values aren't a strong suit, but the drama makes up for it with tons of heart. The characters are all genuinely lovable (even the temperamental princess), the plot is solid, Jang Nara actually looks both pretty and gorgeous in her silly getups (and especially in her cameo as the queen/her mother in the last episode or so) and best of all, there's a happy ending with twins!
It's a satisfying drama with low stakes, cute FL, and nice logic which can be rare in cdramas nowadays. Everything makes sense, ties together neatly, and has a solid set of moral principles, which I like. The impending war was even dissolved with the power of love and marriage, hahah.
