Dated but classic with a nice dose of whump
I watched this when young during the summer I think, and one thing that took time to sink in was that the two sisters were supposed to look "exactly alike" after they switched identities. They were not (even personality wise), lol, so you need some suspension of disbelief to run with it.
I really liked Penny Lin in this series and Joe Chen's character admittedly annoyed me with how immature she was at times, but in the end she does have character growth which made up for her faults. Also the sudden plot twist with Penny's character getting sick (I forgot what it was but it caused her pain) was definitely there to amp up the drama, but it made for super pretty angst especially in the last episode when everyone thought the villainess girl had prompted her to leave the hospital and off herself when she was literally just out for a walk LOL
Joe Chen's character falling for the eventual villain was a twist but also dramatic when he ended up offing himself instead. I remember at the time I was so annoyed with Joe's character that all I felt was "finally!! you can feel a bit of the pain you inflicted on your sister by doubting/suspecting/hurting her too!" so that was a cathartic scene LOL
Overall, being an eldest child Penny's character gave me eldest daughter syndrome sympathy and I am so so glad she got her happy ending. Also the ensemble cast of friends was also fun and fashionable and comedic, they didn't take up a lot of the screentime or plot but they had their mini arcs and worlds in the background which enriched the world. Overall a fun read!
And I was so surprised when they played an English song (Lene Marlin's Disguise) for the closing credits but it quickly became one of my favs, I was using it as the BGM for my blog once upon a time. XD
