Ah ok. But still scratching my head over “too revealing” and “too scary”. Oh well, par for the course in cdramaland.

Loved the makeup in Back from the brink. Coming right after TTEOTM it was so refreshing. They made Zhao Ye look stunning in every scene.

The whole scene where the Yans get arrested and taken away totally wasted and spoiled. Another scene where the 2 leads face each other also spoiled cos suddenly they were in shadow and flares going off all around 🤦🏻‍♀️

Yes I think TTEOTM came in for its proper share of makeup criticism - I still don't know why poor LYX had to be made to look like he walked off the set of Twilight - the Xianxia version. In comparison the red eyeliner is not so bad here, or we've become desensitised by earlier dramas 😄. I doubt too that ZLH has much say over how they do his makeup.

Yes, now if only the director had controlled his crazy penchant for lens flaring. I swear some of those scenes, they should flash a warning to put on sunglasses. Spoiled some perfectly good dramatic moments cos the audience is left squinting at the screen trying to make out the actors' faces.

Actually the red eyeliner and makeup here can be considered quite restrained by recent standards. TTEOTM for eg immediately springs to mind - so much more OTT with the makeup there.

I have no idea what they mean too. Perhaps they thought he overacted? Who knows? Their crazy ass criticisms are always so out of this world. Perhaps they were hoping for another Gong Zi Yu or Chang Heng - instead they got this new "dark" side of ZLH, and their brains short-circuited and they couldn't deal. Though anyone watching his dramas would have seen it foreshadowed by ZLH's dark twin in Tiger and Crane.

Ya it's not the right time and place to take him out 👿

Sadly it is flabbergastingly real. Once again it is amazing how crazily divergent the views inside and outside China can be (assuming he is responding to domestic audience criticism). Perhaps they wanted him to be more of a fluffy wounded puppy but got a dire wolf instead 😆😆:

Wah lau eh, can’t believe ZLH apologised to fans and netizens cos some of them said his acting was ‘too revealing’ and his subconscious scenes were ‘too scary’. Hmmmm what drugs are they on and what parallel dimension are they living in? Personally can’t get enough of his demented cray cray and those nuclear stares. The story is actually headlined “Zhang Ling He apologises for poor performance in drama”. Damnation!

Would watch him any day rather than some of those eternally deadpan and emotionally constipated actors and there're quite a few of those lurking in cdramaland…….

He should be someone XW is using or somehow forcing to be his double.

Ummm I didn’t say he was good, but goody goody. That implies prim and proper laced with a streak of self-righteousness.

And have you seen the variety show As you wish - he solves the math problems in a flash when they're in the haunted house. Dead impressed - that is to say even more dead impressed than before 🤩

Both are great and deserve serious binge watching. If pressed, I would have to say LYF's overall plot and ensemble cast are a little better. However, SOKP will be a personal fave cos of Zhang Ling He as well as a script that doesn't let Bai Lu down. If you aren't already a fan of ZLH, be prepared to be shocked and awed by his defcon 1 laser glares, general cray cray and chiseled jawline. 😆
