In the hands of a good director, her acting is good. Her problem is she shot way too many Chu Yui Bun and Yin…
Did way too many xianxias at a certain point and got a bit stuck in those roles. Am a fan but dropped quite a few of those.

In ancient times before TB was cured it was a disease that afflicted loads of people. They did cough blood though…
Ya the most extreme is probably poor LYX in TTEOTM right, if memory serves? Cannot tell whether blood is coming out or just finish vampire meal 😂

I do remember hearing my mum sometimes say it in Cantonese - 嘔血.... so this is the literal visualisation lah. Altho' I can't remember if the old HK TVB kungfu series had so much 嘔血 going on 🤣

When people are in a relationship they tend to have heightened and unrealistic expectations of each other, at times maybe even assuming the other parner should know them so well as to be able to read their minds and act accordingly - I think both are somewhat guilty of this. In YL's case she really has mostly only had imaginary convos for years on the mountain, so even though she is awesomely sharp and intelligent, she really doesn't have a wealth of experience with people IRL who haven't been conjured from her own mind. And MXY too has his own issues to overcome, quite aside from having to keep in mind/honour the deaths of so many people. For me it wasn't the divorce letter but his burning of the wrapper which was too OTT (am sure there was suppressed instant regret) but then as we have seen previously (when quarelling with the emperor or with his bro) he can be quite impetuous in the heat of the moment.

While we as viewers can sit and dissect dispassionately (or not so dispassionately :)) what should or should not have been done sooner/better, I think the portrayal of their relationship including the breakdown/missteps in communication and the subsequent consequences is quite realistic. More to the point, we are about to see how they overcome their difficulties and really move forward together.

Read an IG post the other day that said it's mainly to show the reversal of qi and blood flow - oklah that I can accept 😂.

I think she knows in her subconscious. She just can't bear to admit it to herself.
Yes, she definitely knows on some level, but has blocked it out as a coping mechanism.

Maybe there is something wrong with the subtitles bc what he said made a lot of sense to me. Her mother was mind…
Yes, Ye Li totally missed the chance to control the narrative, instead letting douchebag marquis fill in the blanks as vindictively as he could. Under the circs, I think MXY's reax is perfectly understandable. He never met or knew YL's mother and compared to the tragedy of his entire family and their dependents, indeed how and why should he be able to symphatize with the mother's situation which arguably she brought upon herself in many ways. I don't think he blames YL for everything, but he is right to feel this way, especially when it must seem that YL could have told him sooner rather than letting him find out in the worst possible way from his mortal enemy. She is also unable to redirect the narrative once losing control of it, as she is burdened by guilt and fear of losing him.

Crucially she also misses the chance to convince him that she is truly in love with him and not acting only out of guilt and to fulfill a promise to his brother. This to me was what MXY really wanted to hear above all.

Sigh - while one can understand YL's difficulties in revealing everything to MXY, she nevertheless missed the opportunity to take control of the narrative.

Think this is Cheng Lei's strongest performance to date. He's really been able to infuse depth into the character without tripping into over dramatization 💯💯

Though i like this drama, i really wish it wasnt advertised as the novel's IP, because they just took some similar…
Yes, I wonder why they bother when the plot is completely and utterly different. And this is not the only drama to do so. Do they think they will get more traction if they say it's based on some popular work? It seems to do a disservice to both the original IP as well as the writers of the drama especially when the drama's storyline can stand on its own merits.

I think the best thing about this drama is the way it has turned what at first glance seems to be just another "I'm back to seek revenge and right the wrongs of the past" storyline into something which has such psychological mystery and depth. Everything seems to be following well-known, well-trodden paths but the viewer starts to get glimpses of a deeper reality and begins to suss something is off. The clues are revealed quite deftly and I like the way they let the viewers work it out on their own and have their own eureka moments. It's very refreshing.

I have to say everyone is being very impressively considerate of YL’s mental state. Neither her senior nor MXY call her out even when they figure out she’s having imaginary convos and/or taking on different personas.

Kudos to YL for forging ahead even when her uncle warns her not to destroy her current relationship. Especially after going thru everything on the mountain and her fear of being left alone again.

OMG! Assume SZD is just playing some kind of long game, but her extreme aggrieved dying maiden air is really bitch slap worthy.

Oh dear, is everyone on the mountain dead? No wonder she's going around practically in a fugue state..........
What sort of soldiers guard a place day in day out and notice nothing?

Title The First Jasmine Spoiler
Nah - she is not playing him. As she told her mother, she sincerely is happy to be his good wife. But they BOTH…
Yes don’t think she’s playing him either. It’s probably also super awkward to reveal that her family played a key role in his family’s tragedy and she’s trying to right that wrong, how would one even begin that conversation. And then there’s her mental trauma thrown in the mix as well……
