Her metamorphosis was kinda OTT, basically an overnight, hey presto, I went crazy over a love affair and now I can understand politics, tada. They had to have FSG say several times, oh she’s really tough underneath……if none of the current ruling family wants to rule then abdicate and go appoint someone who is qualified and experienced lah.

Yes, I felt that they just wanted to set up the final fight between him and FSG, whereas by every right, FYX has first dibs when it comes to taking him down. It devolved into two men fighting over a woman thingy at the end, which really isn’t nearly as satisfying as seeing FYX deliver a fatal blow. And could a man who sacrificed so much and plotted for so long really lose it at the end over a woman? FSG’s bloody git of a father never did.

I was quite glad Xiyang didn’t die in the end. After her crazy metamorphosis, she became almost likeable. Loved how she had crazy emperor totally under control by the end.

As for XJS, nope, still no empathy. For me, remained a sociopath trapped in his past. Also delulu, fantasizing about how FYX would return to him. Dude, you shot her off the cliff…..no one comes back from that.

OMG - the crazy emperor and the even crazier princess are just slaying it right now. With everyone else so serious, they are providing much needed comic relief 🤣🤣

Totally the wrong time to insert these things when there are still sooooo many loose ends to tie up - the Murongs, the Empress, XJS and even the hilarious new kooky couple of the day - the Jinxiu Emperor and the Princess.........

MY is turning out to be a spoilt immature moron only now waking up to the fact that his actions have real consequences for everyone close to him. Really have to wonder again if he wasn't switched at birth with FSG. I think he was mortified if only for a few hours or so after the stabbing, but he's the one who embarked on this Karen mission and there's no turning back.

He is doing this for his idiot son who has left him no choice. Besides, every single one of the villains from XJS to the PM to MY are guilty of a ton of bloody deeds and deep betrayal. Don't forget XJS set up death camps and he and MY wanted to decimate a whole city's civilian population just to trap and kill FSG. Compared to them are Murong Sr's crimes really that much greater?

But his motivation is also the most understandable in the story and far more convincing than the others with their half-baked or run of the mill motives.

I think about 99% of the problems in period cdramas are down to bad parenting - douchebag dads and manipulative moms abound😅

Really have to beware when good people turn bad, cos then they become really good at being bad. Murong Sr is way more decisive and effective than most of the other ninny plotters around him, especially his nincompoop moron of a son.

He really should take a shot at the throne cos amongst all this motley crew he probably is most qualified to be an effective ruler.

Something really is rotten in the state of Susha: this imperial family (with the exception of FSG, his departed mom and maybe his (to date) clueless bro) is so textbook dysfunctional. Imagine waiting 15 years just so he can finally return the same words to the Empress.............truly this drama showcases all kinds of characters who can't love, love in the wrong way, or use love to justify their bad behaviour.

Hmmm the PM in his crazed revenge frenzy seems to have forgotten that he also owes a blood debt to FSG.

Yes there is because the root cause is that he loves in the wrong way. He wants to control and possess - that is not love. This results in him treating people closest to him like things.
As FSG pointed out, he has other alternatives as heirs. But because he still wants to "beat" his first wife, he remains fixated on controlling FSG's life. For eg, with Chenyang is it really that he doesn't have what it takes, or that the Emperor already long ago decided no one with a smidgeon of Zhuang blood will inherit? What if he had focused as much energy on him as he did FSG?
