Something really is rotten in the state of Susha: this imperial family (with the exception of FSG, his departed mom and maybe his (to date) clueless bro) is so textbook dysfunctional. Imagine waiting 15 years just so he can finally return the same words to the Empress.............truly this drama showcases all kinds of characters who can't love, love in the wrong way, or use love to justify their bad behaviour.

Hmmm the PM in his crazed revenge frenzy seems to have forgotten that he also owes a blood debt to FSG.

Yes there is because the root cause is that he loves in the wrong way. He wants to control and possess - that is not love. This results in him treating people closest to him like things.
As FSG pointed out, he has other alternatives as heirs. But because he still wants to "beat" his first wife, he remains fixated on controlling FSG's life. For eg, with Chenyang is it really that he doesn't have what it takes, or that the Emperor already long ago decided no one with a smidgeon of Zhuang blood will inherit? What if he had focused as much energy on him as he did FSG?

Yes, that's what I'm still hoping he (or rather the writers) is/are keeping up his sleeve. That he's thinking if his dad and the emperor all started out as warlords at the same time, he feels that it's his family's turn/right to take the throne. Because that's the only game in town and the only prize worth winning, isn't it? And the only fitting compensation for his chopped off toes.........

Actually we still don't know how the PM's son died and what the Emperor role was in that. Remains to be seen how justified the PM is in his rage, and how much is coloured by ambition for the throne. Cos throughout history tons of fathers have lost their sons, just as tons of sons would have lost their fathers fighting in wars declared by their rulers, justified or not, and/or in the course of other duties.

There's also always the possibility that he and his family will be "rewarded" with extermination after his partners in crime take over, especially if his dad does not support the PM.

Exactly. Not only blaming wrong person, but he is just rationalising his behaviour and it's weak, very weak. This is sufficient justification for selling out everyone close to him except dear old dad?

So after all, MY turned out to have very pathetic petty excuses for being a villain - is this really all there is to his betrayal? Rationalising his behaviour and acting as if he and his family are the only ones to ever make sacrifices in service to a ruler. Was hoping for a stronger motive other than jealousy and resentment at different stations in life, especially as he was apparently driven to plot like crazy for years and years and will not hesitate to sacrifice a few hundred thousand civilians and anyone close to him (except his dad) in the process. Yes, life in service to an emperor is unfair and could cost you life and limb, but it is what his dad willingly signed up for.

Plus who's to say his collaborators will not kill him off and exterminate his family right after they take power especially given the real loyalty of his dad, and his refusal to openly side with the PM. Can't believe he hasn't considered that his family may not get what he's fantasizing they deserve.
