Big sigh was it really necessary to drag out the last few episodes with such a tropey "2nd male lead goes delulu obsessive" plotline? If they couldn't figure out what to do they should have just ended it with a nice wedding scene.
In this case I definitely prefer the ending in the novel, which though it involved the deaths of some side characters was acceptable as a commentary on war and its inevitable consequences. The Chu Zhao in the novel did not go off the bend and remained in cynical character. Bad bad decision to fall back on tired old plot of misplaced obsessive infatuation which added absolutely nothing to the story.
