Hmmm maybe. I think the writers themselves knew the audience was going to have issues with the violence in the first few eps, since they had the Susha chorus/boy band voice doubts about why FSG had to hit her so hard. I don't know why they still chose to go down that road since the boy band themselves didn't come up with an answer. One should not expect compassion or ethical treatment of enemy combatants in a world without the Geneva convention. Nevertheless, the context for FYX's torture is not sufficiently well fleshed out and comes off as gratuitous and super vicious - basically an amateur attempt by the writers trying to hammer home the message they are deadly enemies. Or maybe they had vestigal memories of Bradgelina messing each other up in Mr and Mrs Smith and wanted to copy and paste..........
However, I don't see FYX as a victim of Stockholm Syndrome since she is more than capable of returning every grievance that she suffers and more. So nah, she is quite far and away from a Mary, Queen of Scots persona because she can stand as an equal to FSG and indeed any man. Am pretty sure anyone trying to rape FYX will be turned into a eunuch before being chopped into further bitty bits.
Oh just to add however, maybe FSG is the one who's whipped in this relationship as per the latest eps 😂 Oh dear, for this couple whipping is both literal and metaphorical 😂
As for FSG's kid sis, I think there's no need for the audience to be too invested in her and her obviously doomed trajectory esp cos XJS is particularly emotionally constipated and can't really love anyone. In the original novel, she was a stereotype of a lovesick fool, and cdrama is always full of these stereotypes of lovesick/obsessed women who are caught up in their own delulu world. Which speaking as a Chinese woman myself, irritates me to hell and back.

I just knew after yesterday’s eps there would be torrents of comments about the princess. But really isn’t she just the stereotypical deep in first love teenager? And really there are all sorts of precedents throughout history. Think of Mary, Queen of Scots with her disastrous taste in men…….she even fell for her kidnapper and rapist leh

The BGM/OST is seriously getting in the way now. Not only is it drowning out key conversations, but the subs for the song are pasted all over the leads' faces....................

I really like Zhao Ye and Song Yi as actresses, but when the current trend and society demands that they remain skinny as hell, it's just a wee bit hard to see them as plausible fierce warriors lifting heavy weapons etc. Altho' I am the first to willingly suspend disbelief when watching cdramas, the credibility gap just niggles away. Above all, sha qi has to be there and maybe some just have it and some don't. LQ is able to project credible, palpable sha qi. Ah where's Michelle Yeoh when you need her 🤣

In the novel, she was a longtime, maybe even childhood BFF, so that was ok. But in the drama, wihout a similar backstory, just really bad portrayal/poor acting I think........unless they really intend her to play some other role down the line.

Her character is not developed much, just like the doctor's, which is why they jar with the audience. She's practically a caricature of a lovesick fool.

Yes, she’s just really young, sheltered and inexperienced. Am not sure why they based this on an actual novel when the drama and the novel appear to be completely different. However, in the novel she was also the same clueless lovesick character so I guess they are sticking with that.
