This drama had the potential to be great but turned out to be an average action-filled melodrama. It was visually beautiful and Joo Won's performance won me over. But there were so many plot holes that the poor characters had to pretend to be totally blind and stupid to cope with it.
4 episodes into the show and I still can't find it interesting and the characters are unlikable except for Kim…
I share your feelings on the first episodes. I was bored and didn't like the characters. It got a lot better from eps 7-8. I'm watching ep 13 right now and I'm enjoying it so far. But I'm not very impressed with Ji Chang Wook (Healer)'s acting.
Did you continue watching at last ? :)
EDIT : Finished it. I was more convinced by Ji Chang Wook's performance in the second half. But Kim Moon-ho is still the only lead I liked. And the ending was such a disappointment.
I started watching it with the belief it was a dark story. I didn't know they chose Kudo Kankuro as the screenwriter (the original work being a mystery novel of Higashino Keigo) : the same Kudo Kankuro who wrote my beloved Kisarazu Cat's Eyes and Unubore Deka (ah, that so damn funny nonsense XD)
The result is an awkward mix of comedy and drama. I wasn't prepared and felt a bit lost.
The main plot's resolution was easy to guess, but then they gave sense to these disturbing subplots. Thanks. I felt satisfied but with a strong need to watch it again in a more adequate mindset.
One more thing : Ninomiya Kazunari's acting. I cannot not love this drama at least for that one reason: his performance as the eldest Ariake brother was excellent.
Not that bad in my opinion. There are loads of more popular dramas that are less interesting. It was painful to watch but I feel it is supposed to be that way. Don't watch it if you need light entertainment/positive message: Fashion King is more like a cruel tale of humanity.
The two male leads were great.
My main complaint about this drama is that the issues between Soo Yeon and Jung Woo were too easily resolved. Soo Yeon was a bit inconsistent in my view.
I watched it for Park Yoochun. He didn't disappoint me, but I found Yoo Seung Ho's character more interesting.
Too much melodrama/violence/misfortune for my taste, but if you are an amateur of the genre, you may like this one.
Nice OST.
Really? Ahn Yo Na is scary XD
I didn't watch any drama since KMHM, but I plan to start Healer tomorrow... Don't know if I will like it, not my usual cup of tea.
My feeling too. This drama is so unbalanced. But really enjoyable : I especially liked the idea of multiple personality disorder, Ji Sung's performance and the Oh family. I laughed a lot and even cried a bit, but I was often bothered by all the nonsense, underdeveloped characters, melodrama and rushed ending.
It was interesting and it gives me hope for the next years' dramas. I recommended it to my friends and will definitely watch it again someday.
I found Jung Yong Hwa's character so useless and blank in "You're beautiful". But as I felt the need for a lighthearted rom-com, I gave him a second chance with "Heartstrings"... At the end, he was just like a ghost floating around during the whole show (sorry for the fans, that sounds a bit harsh).
For the rest, it was a quite boring but cute story. It has been a few years and I'm still listening to JYH's songs at times. But I won't rewatch this drama, nor recommend it to anyone.
It is so ridiculously funny and cute. You can see it's a shoujo manga adaptation.
This is one of my first dramas and after all these years, I feel it's getting old (or maybe I'm the one who's getting old). You can watch much better in recent dramas (although I almost gave up on taiwanese dramas... any recommandation?).
To me, it's more a good memory than a good drama, but I still enjoy watching the trio Rainie/Mike/Kingone.
I wish some parts were shorter. Also, everyone is crying way too much... But this drama is so heartwarming that I can overlook its flaws. Jeong Bo Seok portraying Woo Ri's handicapped father is brilliant (and Kim Jae Won's smile totally melted my heart)
I felt so peaceful while watching this...
Nice story, solid acting. A good pick in the "Family/Life" category.
I was also happy to find Sasaki Kuranosuke as a supporting role.
I watched it for the second time, that was not as bad as I remember.
The whole supernatural powers' thing is such a pity and the plot is boring for the most part.
But I liked the time travelling, the lively female lead and the tormented king.
Also, Gi Cheol is one of my favourite villains. Yoo Oh Sung's facial expressions were so funny, but it made Lee Min Ho's blank expression even more obvious.
I enjoyed watching it, but it was nothing special. A cliché ending made the whole thing easily forgettable to me. Even so, the villain was insane and made me laugh a lot.
