It's a realistic ending given the timeline. To me, I didn't focus on the love story too much. The spoils of war, the hardships, the sacrifices, the importance of family, friendships, loyalty and so much character development were far more interesting. Shawn Dou was astounding.
After watching this, you should have some understanding of war and sufferings in china's history. You can understand why chinese ppl wanted communism, equality and peace. Why China became a communist country? And the great sufferings they endured from the japanese invasion and civil war. Communism and the idea of unifying the country and peace was the best solution at that time. China shut themselves from the world as they rebuild their country. In only 20yrs, they were able to modernise, industrialize and bring 1 bil ppl above the poverty line.
What is sad is that there's still war now in Ukraine, Africa, Middle East. There are no winners in war.
Huh? I thought it was chicken wings
I don't want to go to war now. The enemy will laugh at us.
Ep 41 is the best yet!

It's a solid 9/10 from me. Epic drama.
