They probably wanted to leave the door open for the possibility of more seasons. But since this series did not…
Are you talking about the rebroadcast ratings? That was pretty good though, considering that it aired first in ott platforms before they rebroadcast it in a cable channel. As far as i know it actually made history as first kdrama to enter top 10 on amazon prime, i remember studio dragon being proud of that achievement.
I know i commented that i like the drama more than the webtoon and i will stand with that but there are few things that i wish the writers and directors didn't change or could have done better. First, i so wish they didn't toned down van-miho dynamics. I love their dark troupe in the webtoon. Van killing for money and miho the bad bad bad spoiled bitch. That could have been the baddest thing that happened in kdramaland and i know KNG will deliver the most. Second, the cgi and the directions could have been better. The cgi is more on funny than on horror thou i understand that they are trying to make it more anime-ish action pack thriller drama rather a full horror genre and the direction of the action scenes were so painfully messy and hard to watch, i want to see a clearer angle of some action scenes but the director decided to focus on irrelevant angles. Third, yohan is my favorite character in the drama (could have been van if they just decided to keep the dark genre of van killing for money and making his fee higher and higher) and so i wish they utilized yohan more. I like the transition of bubbly, sly, cunning yohan to super powerful yohan, he is by far the one that is almost (not fully) synchronized to the webtoon. His power was not even properly explained or maybe they are saving that for season 3? (Which i doubt because they rarely do season 3 in kdrama but maybe with that ending, they are testing the waters? Maybe.)
I don't know if it's just me who finds the drama more entertaining than the comic? Because the drama is clearly heading for something while the comic became draggy in the long run. I do agree that they shouldn't toned the characters tho. Like van is more ruthless and miho is more bitchy and brat in the comic, yohan is somehow the one being similar in the comic, the sly, playful, and cunning youngest exorcist hip priest. Y'alls if you find miho annoying and selfish, y'all wouldn't survive the comic version of miho because she is more bitch and brat there.
And as for the overdramatic effects and the missing horror like genre, i think they just listed it as horror because of the effects and demons but i think they want to convey this drama as more of anime like drama, like people demon hunting and killing them using supernatural powers. I think more than horror, the writers and directors want this to be more like cool action pack anime like drama. Like we are clearly heading to a trio with supernatural powers saving the world in the end.
