I love IU, and I love Byeon Woo Seok, but I can kinda see where this is going. The first two episodes were pretty, eye-catching, beautifully shot, but it felt lifeless. Like, I can't seem to feel the weight of any of the actions or the reality of this world. Is Huiju supposed to be a powerful career woman? Is she supposed to have endless wealth and business acumen? But it doesn't seem like it. Every scene of her in her workplace is either for comedic effect or she's just goofing off. From what I can glean, she's just someone who got lucky and was born to a father who can hand her a company to manage and then take it away when he wants to. Maybe that's what her character is supposed to be.

The same goes with Grand Prince I An. Apparently, he is very popular, very important, a whole ass regent. But he doesn't do anything. Like he was insinuated to have gone hunting once, maybe attend a few events. But that's it. The royal family, that is supposed to be so consequential, does not have any pull, it seems. The show says they do, but we are never shown the extent of how far their influence goes. The show feels so vast, but nothing feels real. I can't seem to get immersed in the world setting because it feels so lifeless.

I got excited in the first episode when we were repeatedly shown the gap between commoners and nobles, but it doesn't look like this show is interested in exploring any of that. I thought we were going to get a bit of commentary on the concept of being born deserving of certain privileges, whether it is possible to truly be born "noble" or "illegitimate" based solely on whose womb you come from. Also, the family dynamics are a bit disappointing. I know the queen mother is going to be annoying as hell, and the king will just be a throwaway cute kid. Huiju's family is also underexplored. What is her relationship like with her father? Does he just hate her, not care about her? What does he think about the daughter he had out of wedlock?

Also, Byeon Woo Seok's acting in this is not up to par at all. IU is doing fine, but Prince I An cannot seem to move his face at all.

However, I will be sat for this. Although it might not seem like it, I am enjoying this. It's just not what I thought it would be. Moving forward, I will just turn off my brain and enjoy the ride and insane amount of face cards.

yes and i saw a two timer cheating on her handicap husband
And no context is required to know how she got there in the first place? There’s a reason he lay down and took it, because he knew he was in the wrong here. He stole her life and her son’s life. He forced himself into someone else’s family. He psychologically and physically manipulated her. He’s the scum of the earth really.

19 is not a child. I feel so icky saying this
She behaves like a child but is not actually a child. You’ll notice she’s only like that when she’s with people she trusts. Due to growing up abused and alone, she’s never had much of a chance to let go and be a kid. Even then, she is still very independent and responsible, she acts like a child, but her overall actions are not childlike at all.

I just finished this and WTF was that? Why did we go through all that angst and drama just for the villains to not get ANY retribution? The person who pissed me off the most is that slimy fuck of a husband. Why the hell does he get treated like a victim? The amount of times they show him crying as If I should feel bad for him is baffling. He literally stole a woman's life and her family, he kidnapped he, and destroyed not only her life but her dreams too. She wanted a family with Hyun Soo, but he took that from her. She wanted to be a writer, but he took that from her too. He's one of the most despicable villains I have ever encountered because people like to act as if he deserves any ounce of respect, or empathy. Like I don't even hate Se Ryeong this much. Her actions are just as slimy and evil, but at least she doesn't act like she's the biggest victim in the world. That man should have faced public humiliation and legal consequences for what he did. He literally KIDNAPPED her. Her dad and mom, and her in-laws too. All of them should have faced consequences for what they did, but all of them like to act like they are being forced to literally kidnap and psychologically and physically manipulate a woman simply because she had the gall to not love the "right person". The more I write about this, the more I get pissed off.

Back to the ending. Why did the author write it like that? It was so disappointing. You're telling me the main characters just get fucked the whole time? No justice or karma or anything good? Like both of them were treated so unfairly and they just have to take it and even have to give concessions to their victimizers. It made me so mad.

However, there is a reason I watched to the end and that is because the story was interesting. I liked the fact that the leads were both obsessed with each other and were willing to go to great lengths for the other. I will say though that Joo Jin Moo is very distracting as the male lead. I'm not saying he's ugly or anything, but the jump from teenage Hyun Soo to Young Adult Hyun Soo to Adult Hyun Soo is jarring to say the least. The female lead looks like a pretty flower and he looks like that. It's so hard to believe that he is meant to be some famous actor or something.

Surprisingly, the side characters were also quite enjoyable. I liked the little bits of bromance sprinkled here and there, the side plot with Hyun Ah and the President (I can't remember his name). It was quite nice. Overall, I'd give this a 7.8 out of 10. The rating is quite accurate, the acting is okay, characters are okay but the story carriers most of it. Give it a watch if you like to watch an agnsty love story.

I don't even know how to feel about that ending. What happened to Ah Jin? Did she lose her mind and memories? I hope they never make a S2 because all the Jae Oh and Jun Seo are dead and I don't see this show being as interesting if Ah Jin doesn't have those two. It was a nice show, it looked good but didn't make much sense. I wish they ended things in a more definitve way but whatever. I enjoyed the ride and would rate it a 9/10 overall.

After watching episode 10, I am pretty disappointed. What was that?

Ah Jin. I loved her in the last few episodes but now she's just stupid. I've always known her to be manipulative, unforgiving, shrewd, cold all those bad things, but I also thought she was very smart and never hasty. Now, at the mere sight of wealth and power, she jumps at it even like a fool. She doesn't know this man, but she married him? What a dumbass. She didn't even do a background check or bid her time like in the past episodes, she just married him just like that. Why did the writers have to ruin one of the best parts of this show just because they want to bring her to ruin.

Jun Seo. He's been disappointing these past few episodes, and nothing has changed this episode. I feel like the writers have ruined his character a little. I think it's because the writers just realized that he is supposed to be the second main character. In the past few episodes, he's just been Ah Jin's lackey, and now there's stuff happening with him that has nothing to do with Ah Jin. But because he hasn't really been fleshed out as his own character, he just feels empty. Also, what is up with his relationship to Lena, why is she still here? She does nothing for the plot, and she was just there to cause a bit of trouble. Another thing that really bothers me about him is his philosophy. What exactly are his motivations? Why does he care so much about Ah Jin just to abandon her when she “goes too far”. Did he dedicate his whole life to her just to let her go at this junction? Also, he's not fully dedicated to her either, because he's not like Jae Oh. So he just comes off a bit weird.

Do Hyeok. Get this weirdo out of my face. I know he's here to be Ah Jin's match but because the writing has gotten so corny, he's just corny now.

Jae Oh: My pity has now turned into annoyance. He was never going to be a good character, but at least let him be useful? He's just bouncing around doing fuck all and moping about Ah Jin ignoring him for the 100th time. He has no self-respect, doesn't seem to care about his brother anymore, and every time he calls ah Jin “Boss”, I cringe a little.

Rapid fire on other characters.
Sung Hee: I like her actress, she did a great job. What is going to become of her now? She's just going to jail atp.
Lena: Good Riddance. I loved her actress but not the character. Also, I wish they explored her relationship with Jun Seo a bit more.
Ji Seon: What a pathetic woman. I hate pathetic villains the most. But she was so shameless and annoying.
Mi Ri: Maybe I am slow, but did she like In-gang or was it purely her feeling like an elder sister?

Overall Plot.
I called it when I said the plot has lost steam. Compared to the first four episodes, I am way less hyped about this show. I think it's because we've lost focus. This show was interesting because of the tension and dynamics between Jun Seo and Ah Jin. Also, Ah Jin was a better protagonist back then. She was smart and proactive, but now she's a little dumb. Also, the show seems to lack a bit of direction. What is the point of this show? What is the point of this new guy that is Ah Jin's husband. Why is he here? Also, we are jumping arcs without finishing them up too quickly. Why did Jun Seo and Ah Jin not talk about In gang at all? Why did we just completely forget about him? Anyway, I am not excited for these upcoming episodes because it's not looking good plot-wise.

After watching episode 8, here are my thoughts.

Ah Jin. Oh. My. God. Such an insane lead. I really like her a lot. I know some people might say she's. a bad person and they can't support her or whatever, but I think you're weak. They've shown since the beginning that she is willing to use anything and anyone and no one in their right mind thinks she's in the right here. The point of this show is not who is a good person or bad person, it's about Ah Jin and her actions. Also, I never for once thought she killed that grandma. Ah Jin has only killed one person and that man was the devil. An innocent grandma who is worried for her grandson is not someone that Ah Jin would plot to kill.

Jun Seo. Disappointing so far to say the least. Kim Young Dae does a great job playing him but I don't like the character that much. He keeps wanting to force Ah Jin to be something she's not and gets all shocked when she does or says something very on brand. I feel bad for him though. He's in love with her but Ah Jin has done nothing but manipulate him for as long as they have known each other. I still think that they are the ones who are about each other the most in this world.

Jae Oh. I feel bad for him. It feels like he's only in this world to suffer. I hope the ending for him is a nice meal with his younger brother and a stable job. I like that he's useful but I still feel very bad for him because it will never ever be him.

In Gang. This guy's life was just very sad. I wish he could have at least made it out alive, but knowing that he has been depressed for a long time, I knew that wasn't very likely. Everyone say a nice prayer for In Gang, he will be missed.

Other characters:
Le Na is annoying
Ah Jin's former boss is like an angel descended to earth. Imagine forgiving her for all that.
Jun Seo's mom is very confusing to me. I don't know what her motivations are.

Overall
I fear we might be losing steam in terms of plot. It was all so exciting and fun, and now we're in a bit of a slump. Some characters feel pointless (I'm looking at you Le Na) and some things drag on a bit long, but overall we're still cruising. In terms of upcoming episodes, I am both excited and apprehensive. I know this new guy will be a challenge for Ah Jin, but the other guys were already emotionally draining, and this guy might be a repeat of the same thing. Ah Jin might be closing the chapter on her acting career, I don't see how she will continue acting in this state. Also, Jun Seo might have lost his whole mind from those ending clips. But on the bright side, the outfits are eating, the acting is on point, and I don't see how they will butcher this show now, so I am confident in a satisfactory ending.
Speaking of endings, I don't really know how I want this to end. The worst ending would be everyone dies, another bad ending would be Ah Jin dies. But I know someone is going to die and I am not prepared for it to be any of our main characters because I love them all so much. The best case would be Ah Jin ends up in prison/therapy but I don't know. Kdramas are not known for sticking the landing so here's to hoping this one does.

Anyway, if anyone has recommendations for me, I am looking for a show that has a femme fatale similar to Ah Jin, not in the sociopath way but in the reverse harem way like in Eve,

Here's my review after 4 eps.

The Good.
This show is pretty funny, and the supporting characters are a nice addition to the show. The ML's relationship with his employees is very heartwarming, and the message about second chances is also very nice to see. The ML and FL have good chemistry and good acting. The ML's voice is quite unique, and I like how he can switch from intimidating and a bit scary to playful and childish in seconds. The FL is also very nice. She's compassionate, smart, and consistent in how she treats people. I like how she is able to have the upper hand using her emotional intelligence even when she is being bullied. I should also mention that the FL and ML are both insanely attractive.

The Bad
The tone shifts are very jarring. One minute we're dealing with a pretty serious drug case, the next it's a rom com. I find it hard to gauge the real stakes of this show. They feel both high and low at the same time. The SML is annoying as hell. If you remove him from the show, nothing significant changes. He's just here to add a bit of a love triangle, which I hate. We know he's not going to win, so he's just annoying.

Overall
This show got me out of my kdrama slump. It's been sitting in my watchlist for a while, and I'm glad I picked it up. The show is unique and a little offbeat, but it's a very good watch. I'll go back to watching now.

How good is it? Where would you place it compared to My Dearest, in terms of storytelling?
My dearest is levels above this. the romance in my dearest alone clears this show/

what is it about reality bending around the MCs and always winning that is too Korean? What kind of racism is this, using Korean as a pejorative.

The amnesia was so annoying. This could've ended in 9 episodes if the author didn't add that annoying plot out of nowhere.

I don't need a man.. but 1. buy me as a slave to keep me safe2. make me your concubine to keep me safeokie dokie
Bro didn’t watch the show. She very clearly states that she does need him, not him directly but his money she is someone who can accomplish many things but is held back by the fact that she is a woman. That’s the whole point
