Watched this for BJT, will watch anything he is in, well at least give it a shot, so far have not been disappointed except for 1 or 2 of his shows. Also, through his dramas have gotten to know a number of gorgeous, talented ladies - Janice Man is added to the list! Her Dr An Lan is calm and reserved on the surface but with a wealth of emotion that comes through for her loved ones and her passion for science, loved the conversation with her best friend on the roof top. She and Ding Qi did yearning and ambiguity quite well :)
I've been on a loop rewatching Mobius haha, always do rewatches for shows I really enjoy. Also, as a non chinese speaker, 1st watches are all about concentrating on the subtitles and missing out on most everything else, expressions, actions etc π . This is my first time watching Janice Man, she has a lovely speaking voice and love her inflections. Her Dr An Lan and Ding Qi had a calm, matured and at the same time cute chemistry.
Hi, based on the translation of the text at the last scene : Li Mu Feng is suspected of unlawful detainment, Mei…
Hi, I'm a fairly new c-drama watcher, but from what I understand after watching quite a number of Chinese crime/legal dramas, the villain/wrong-doer must always be shown to be subjected to the law and legal repercussions regardless of the justifications of their actions, unfair circumstances etc. This seems to be the consensus of other international c-drama watchers. So most dramas will show this at the last scene as a written epilogue or sometimes voice-overs. Regarding Mei Cheng she did turn herself in, the scene where she dropped the train ticket and said to herself that she and Li Mu Feng were now accomplices was in front of the Police Station. From my view/understanding, she guessed that Li Mu Feng had/would turn himself in when he didn't turn up at the train station. I believe that she decided to turn herself in too, because she had deep, genuine feelings for him (tied to forever being grateful maybe) and wanted to share his weal and woe. I may be wrong. Though, there were no concrete evidence of LMF's involvement, the traces and trail were there, it would be a matter of time before hard evidence came up under further investigation, he also probably decided to turn himself in to further show the flaw of the system? Regarding LMF's appeal for his conviction of 14 years ago, Mei Zheng did come forward during the Public Hearing, but what she hid didn't really have any bearing on the main reasons/justifications DHS categorised LMF's case as Excessive Defense instead of Justifiable Defense, were it known then or even at the present. That is why LMF in the end withdrew his appeal. DHS's reasoning/justification was solid, it was centred on public and social harmony and safety instead of individual right to self defense. There are a lot of discourse on Article 20 of China's Criminal Law from what I have found on the Internet, it is rarely used and difficult to prove/execute. Only now, it is being made more clear. Have a read of the review by user Acker, I think the review is on point. Hope this helps! Happy drama watching :)
can someone tell me what happened to Li Mu Feng??? ... so now both prosecutors know that he planned everything…
Hi, based on the translation of the text at the last scene : Li Mu Feng is suspected of unlawful detainment, Mei Zheng is suspected of abetting in evidence destruction. Both cases are with the Procuratorate for review and prosecution. I believe both of them turned themselves in based on the last few scenes.
What did MZ do at the end? Did she tell on them? (MZ and LMF). And lol, the law sure is broken here. Both DHS…
Actually they both are being investigated, the write up at the end stated that LMF was under suspicion for unlawful detention, MZ under suspicion for destroying evidence. Their cases have been sent to the procuratorate for review and prosecution.
Going into the show, I had thought LMF's character arc and journey was towards reconciling with his fate and moving forward in life and living it with no more regrets and bitterness. I had so wished he and MZ had had gone to live by the sea. Him, creating beautiful objects from glass and she, diving carefree in the open sea. But that was not how their story was to be told.
I guessed early on that LMF might be the mastermind of DHS's incident from when he described to FLY the attributes of the one who could pull it off. But kept changing my mind, as he masked his emotions so well especially when it came to DHS's daughter - YingYing. Also, there was the Jiang Ting case that threw me off and other things in between. In the end, it was him.
LMF could not get over what fate handed to him. Him being made a sacrifice was definitely unfair, DHS played GOD on this one. I think if he and MZ had reached out to each other earlier, if he had not met ZL's father, if DHS had not decided JD for Jiang Ting, and had not told him that he wanted to revive the JD clause, it might have not pushed him over that edge. But all that happened and that's how we got our story.
I very much enjoyed this, was immersed in it, it pulled at my emotions, had me tearful and melancholy. Gaps in the story telling and logic are there, but I have always been a viewer that can fill up those with my imagination and reasoning, and does not take away from the story in my eyes. And hey real life, with what is going on now has no logic, rhyme or reason. #JustifiableDefense
Enjoyed this show. Sometimes rewatch chunks of it. Love the relationship between the 2 ladies and them with everyone else. The interior design work aspect to me was also interesting. Some comments say that the work issues here were exaggerated ... hmm not sure where that came from, real life work issues can be just as bad or downright worse haha
Wanted to wait till all episodes were out before starting but couldn't resist π. Solid narrative and performance. BJT is one of my fave, watched Zhang Luyi in Three Body, and see other familiar faces. First time with Gao Ye, she will be added to my list of 'to look out for'!
hi βΊοΈ I'm curious, which things are different in the novel?
Hi ! The first few scenes in the drama are very different from the novel, and to me didn't set the tone for where the drama would be heading. The other change which I thought would be better without was the addition of LYR's mom and stepmom's story. LYR's fake death was a change from the novel but that fit into the drama, along with some other changes made here and there. In my view, an adaption to a different medium need not follow the original to the letter, as long as the essence is retained, a good story will be told.
Am rewatching this for the nth time, with a few skips here and there. Still really enjoy the show, love most of the characters and the relationship dynamics. Just wished they had followed the novel a bit more closely on some parts. Nonetheless , one of my favourites that I will rewatch from time to time.
Hi! Just noticed this. I think he is the male main lead and does have quite a substantial screen time. Having said this though, the story's main focus is still with the 2 ladies.
