Sometimes the Director sets a rule, illogical one, and follows it all along the drama. He did that here, bullets don't work at all for the ML and FL, but works effectively fine for the villain! Lazy writing doesn't have anything to do with the genre of the drama. The car isn't a fantastic beast! It's just a car that took a rain of bullets, and that fuelled it to work!
