it's an original script, so we don't know for sure if it's a happy or sad ending (praying it's happy 😄). but, based on some reuters captured by fans, the leads travel back to the present and meet each other again. therefore, we can assume it's a happy ending.
in Liu Yuning's recent livestream, he confirmed that he added the line "women, you're playing with fire" 😂 he also mentioned that the drama includes references to many iconic scenes/tropes that are commonly played in costume dramas such as the ML saving the FL, and she falls in love
