It’s not Open Ending. If you like it or not. They can meet 27 times because of petal. Each year they can meet 1 time when white petal blooms.
In novel there is Happy Ending. Different from drama version.

It’s not open ending imo. It just the ending we didn’t wished. But for Shi Ying, it’s happy ending for him because he saved civilizations. We wished he stay alive with Zhu Yan forever.

Yeah. Because of petal. It’s seems real because Zhu Yan said in the ending he didn’t appeared in her dream or illusion in 1 year. So, i think It's not dream or illusion but she only can meet him 10 times in her rest lifetime

Not 27 times for Zhu Yan. Zhu Yan will live 27 years and She already 17 and 1 year later 18. 10th times max. DSM said her lifespan 54 years and she already gave half of her lifespans to Shi Ying.

Zhu Yan has only 27 years lifespan even if they alive they both can’t live more than 27 years. After She reviving him why screenwriter thought she need to stab him and again same character died twice.
Although there is no logic in Xianxia, the ending could have been better. I liked it till episode 39. Episode 40 honestly didn't like it. Acting & Direction, CGI, Budget,Music,Casting everything was alright in this drama.

I just watched episode 40 without subtitles and I’m disappointed. I didn’t like the fact that Emperor Xingzun posses Zhu Yan when Shi Ying kissed her It posses Shi Ying and Shi Ying died by Zhu Yan. I don’t like the fact that one of lover kill another and didn’t revive.
