I see writer’s little bit desperate here & it can be happen,at first she was not write novel seriously then later take it seriously..Mao Xiaojun actually created Xiao Wudi..She used to think Mao Xiaojun doesn’t like her but he always wanted to protect her & like her too but never confessed .even he is protecting her after his death.It was novel but she & her husband said this novel based on their life & they just added in fantasy & some changes on it.
Mao Xiaojun dark side is Mao Xiaojun and Mao Xiaojun light side is Xiao Wudi in her novel.

Finally I finished watching with subtitles. I think the ending is Happy. I watched the drama episodes16-24 twice. Some people really confused me with the ending but finally I found out what i thought first, it was right.This drama begins with the opening of a book(Opening Song).

For you it ruins the drama but not for me.Their whole journey was book story but it is actually based on reality/their real life,they just added fantasy on it. It sounds more interesting to me and I'm satisfy with that.

I've watched with subtitles till episode 16 so I understand correctly till episode 16 and yes Mao Xiaojun is An Nina's son. Most of the spoiler of the story is shown at the end of the drama

Even in police drama I am looking for Romance! Police also human they can fall in love too. I wish there is something about police personal life apart from the investigation,captaincy and thrilling. Hope her character is not single.🫣
