Yess early 2000 dramas were the best. I remember camping at the viki site while they were live translating. Where there were only 3-4 dramas i would be looking forward to per week and not drowning in the 20+dramas running per week now.

Uhm excuse you, Meteor Garden did really well, like really well way before Boys Over Flowers. Maybe you were too young to have caught that wave(huhu my age.) but yeah, it started Asian drama watching for me and most people.

Watch it after watching the drama coz otherwise this wouldnt really make sense. The plot line was so choppy you'd think its one of those really long trailers Chinese dramas make that gives away most of the plotline. The chemistry with the two actors also werent fleshed out well because of the time constraints.
