There isn't a romance, but there's an interesting tension with a feeling that's kind of hard to pin down. It's dark and intense, but vague on exactly how Moon Jo intends some of his actions to be taken (like using Jagiya, which is normally a term of endearment between romantic partner but can be used between friends, or a few other things). Moon Jo's interest in Jong Woo can be interpreted as holding an attraction, but it's not ever explicitly stated as such. It's a pretty obsessive, intense and dark dynamic, but how you interpret his actions is really up to you. How you interpret the tension in The Devil Judge might tell you how you're likely to interpret this dynamic, though the stories are very different. As for the ending, it's not happy, but I didn't didn't find it tragic, just kind of where the story naturally needed to go. The ending fit the story. If you're into psychological thrillers, I would highly recommend it. It's dark, but genuinely brilliant, with top tier acting.
