So how would that work? She had a miscarriage but the baby was alive?
There was no clear explanation in the episodes as to how she lost her baby so the viewers are kept in the dark. She could have given birth to the baby and was later informed that he died after birth. Her mother in law approved of her marrying her son after she found out that she would be a good asset to her son's future political ambition. So, her role in the family was that of a political prop and having a child would be a distraction.
Love it! Just my kind of drama, a combination of thriller and romance. The chemistry between San Ho and Mun Ju is off the charts. The way he looks at her and her staring back at him, the constant physical proximity and touching are sizzling hot. I was rewatching the first episode and I realized that the child of the mistress might in reality be the son of Mun Ju and Jun Ik. As Jun Ik was dying he yanked the cross necklace he gave her and uttered the words "our peaches." That's why I was wondering why Jun Ik left everything to Mun Ju and not leave a portion to his son. I believe it's because Mun Ju is the real mother. If my guess is right, I can't wait for mother and son reunion.
after reading your review i cant understand what you disliked all that thing are charactersnot all character in…
We all have flaws; but flaws cannot be used as an excuse to justify for what these sisters did with their lives. In spite of our flaw, we're gifted with free will to decide what is best for us, what path to take and what path not to take. What is tragic about these sisters is the way they repeatedly allowed themselves to be used and abused by the very same people who were leading them to self destruction.
Nah, it would be far better without romance. The manhwa is just like you describe and its not boring at all, always…
Really? What part of the manhwa kept you on the edge? I did not read the manhwa so i'm just basing my comments on the drama itself. In fairness to Min Young, she's not some vacuous, emotionless female. She's actually a very smart prosecutor and was deeply involved in investigating Sunyang. If you follow the story in the drama, you will know how she helped expose Do Joon's uncle, aunt and cousin. Actually, she and Do Joon are a tag team. He feeds her the information and she in turn, takes action. Without her in the drama, there is no story because Do Joon will not have someone he can trust. Do Joon is a member of the Sunyang family so he cannot blatantly attack them because he will not only be exposed but he will be considered a pariah by the family. So Min Young is the one who turns his plans for revenge into reality. She is as important a character as grandpa. Her character is not just for the romance but for the business side of the story and that is why the romance part was purposely downplayed. Do Joon is really himself and real when he's with her. With grandpa and his family, he's just showing a facade.
Be careful what you wish for. Without romance, this drama will just be dealing with the business side so viewers will be subjected to squabble among men dealing with stocks, mergers and acquisition, money laundering, slush funds (a more indirect reference to embezzlement), hostile takeovers, who will be the CEO or not, Ugh, I'm already bored just mentioning these terms.
It's not as if the romance between Do Joon and Min Young is blatantly in your face. It is very subtle and I appreciate production for this because, after all, this is Do Joon's journey and that includes his relationship with Min Young. To think that Min Young is just a useless character is kind of sad because she is Do Joon's moral compass. She halts his more aggressive behaviour which may cause him losing himself in the process. He respects her opinion so that he does make decisions that Min Young, although she may be reluctant , understands where he's coming from. He and Min Young are like dancing around each other, giving and taking along the way. They don't let their relationship get in the way of independently doing their respective jobs.
Not appreciating this drama because of what really amounts to minor details in the overall story is like "missing the forest for the trees." I was clapping with glee when Grandpa threw down a huge gauntlet Do Joon's way. He practically gave Do Joon the finger (in a good way) from the grave. I'm so excited to find out how Do Joon will squirm out of his situation.
Whatever relationship Do Joon has with his grandfather is all calculated on his part. When he was reborn as the grandson of the family who used him as their lapdog before he was killed, he not only lost his life, he lost his real family too. He could not even introduce himself to them. From the beginning he already has revenge in his mind. Take the company and expose the person who had him killed. He even told his grandfather that he'll buy Soonyang. His grandfather may have genuine affection for Do Joon but as far as Do Joon is concerned, his grandfather is just a means to an end, the end being wrenching Soonyang from the clutches of his family.
The one, true and real for him is Min Young. He met her before he was murdered and already held a certain admiration for her even though they were on the opposite side. So when he met her again in his new life, he fell hard for her. They both share the same values like honesty, respect and empathy for the less fortunate. I love the romance here. They're sweet and has genuine love for each other. I love it when Min Young kissed him first. Most of the time in K drama, it's typical for male leads to force kiss the female lead. Without Min Young, his life will be empty because he has nobody. Just a rich kid surrounded by the people he does not consider to be his family.
The way he cuts his aunt, uncle and cousin down to size is so freaking awesome that rewatch the episodes. The smirk on his face when he delivers his ultimatum is so good.
This drama reminded me of Lee Jun Ki's Again My Life. First three episodes were more of an introduction to the story. Good start. Episode 3 was kinda meandering a bit but towards the end of the episode it became interesting as it signalled the start of his revenge.
I just love watching dramas about strong women and Kim Hye Soo epitomizes a queen who would do everything in her power to protect her sons, the way she carries herself, her bearing, the tilt of her head exuding self confidence at the same time, showing such tenderness to a son who's struggling with his sexuality. The expression on her face made me tear up. KHS is such an incredible actress.
I just hope that this won't be a long-winded struggle with those ministers, typical in historical kdramas where the heroine is almost crawling on the ground with defeat before she trumps evil deeds. The king seems to be supportive of her and I wish he continues to do so and not become one of those weaklings beholden to his mother. I'd be so upset if that happens. I'm almost at the point of not watching and just binge watch when the drama ends but I can't help myself.
Jang Hyuk would not, I don't think, play an adulterer.-he avoids TV scripts with physical intimacy in general…
@EIBee I have not watched all of Kim Sun Ah's earlier works but from My Name is Kim Sam (my favourite drama), she consistently played roles of strong women. Whereas other actresses, although playing the female lead, are relegated to be second fiddle to the male lead, KSA is the central character and main focus of the drama. Even at 48, she's still one of the most sought after actresses because of her very excellent acting skills. I consider her the Meryl Streep of Korea. Having said that, Kim Hee Ae was 53 when she took on the role of a betrayed wife in The World of the Married, where she had a sexy roll on the hay with the hot Park Hae Joon (10 years her junior). Thinking about it, Park Hae Joon would have been a better choice as Kim Sun Ah's husband in this drama. They both are almost the same age.
Being able to speak convincing English even if one is not English speaking is what I consider the trait of a good actor. Production should hire an English language coach to sit with these actors to practice how to deliver their lines.
In this drama, Kim Sun Ah is playing another solid role of a prosecutor. From my first impression, her character comes from a very wealthy but corrupt family and that she'll eventually become their nemesis. The only thing this drama needs is focus and not confuse the audience doing so many things at the same time. Stop showing the professor and his plaything because they're just fillers and not even good ones.

Bae Soo Bin is ok. I've seen him in other dramas but I just have not warmed to this actor. Kim Sun Ah has been paired with the likes of Hyun Bin, Lee Dong Wook, Cha Seung Won and Lee Dong Gun, all smoking hot actors. Other actors that come to mind are Gong Yoo, Yoo Ji-tae and So Ji Sub. Is it because Kim Sun Ah is of a certain age that she's given these crappy actors as male leads? I did not watch Should We Kiss First because I also did not like the male lead.
With regards to English, I'm ok with them to have certain accents and pronunciations because it is not their native tongue but the delivery is just.........bad. These actors should memorize their lines over and over again to reach a certain comfort level so they don't appear constipated when saying their lines.
Just watched first two episodes. I am a big Kim Sun Ah fan and so happy she's back. Don't like the male lead. His scenes with the student are cringworthy. He does not have the charisma and looks that someone like Kim Sun Ah and the mistress's characters will fall for. They should have chosen someone like Jang Hyuk or Jang Dong-Gun to be the male lead. The family gathering was so awkward and laughably fake. Except for Kim Sun Ah who speaks fluent English (she attended university in the States), It's obvious that the other actors were not comfortable with speaking English.
Been binge watching this drama. Great adaptation and just as thrilling as the original Korean version but with more romance and lots of skinship (I loved how natural and comfortable both actors were with each other). Piolo Pascual and Lovi Poe have great chemistry and they're stunning as a couple. Piolo Pascual was at first understated in his performance but then he blew me away in episode 22. First time to watch Lovi and I em very impressed with her as the wife. As Jacob/Daniel and Iris, their 14 year love story, amidst all the chaos and struggles in their life, was given as much attention in this drama and I love it. I'm watching this drama in IWantTFC
Watched each episode in iwanttfc and I must say, I like the Philippine adaptation better than the Korean and even the original version. Jodi Sta. Maria as the wronged wife is a gem of an actress. I don't know how she does it but when you look into her eyes, they convey so much emotion so she draws the audience to feel the hurt, disappointment, anger and sense of betrayal she was feeling at that very moment. Add the beautiful cinematography, the cast, the colourful and fashionable wardrobe of each character and I get one beautifully crafted adaptation of Dr. Foster.
Disappointed. Lee Ji Ah was the only decent and likeable character in Penthouse and production decided to kill her off. I'm not watching this unwatchable drama with characters I don't care about. Kim So Yeon's over-the-top one dimensional acting is so irritating. The continuous bullying among the kids became tiresome and boring to watch.
so you literally want Nam Joo Hyuk out of the picture?
Sorry for the late reply. I have not watched from epi 3 bec I want the drama to finish so I can’t give a definitive answer. Im presently rooting for JP to end up with DM.
so you literally want Nam Joo Hyuk out of the picture?
I could not hold back tears. Grandma gave Ji Pyung, an angry and defensive young man, hope and love. That scene made JP realize that she cared for him and that was the moment he felt love for her.
so you literally want Nam Joo Hyuk out of the picture?
Well, at this point, we don't really know who ends up with whom. I'm keeping an open mind and waiting how the drama unravels as it progresses. To be honest, at this point (first two episodes) I am more enamoured with the relationship between grandma and Ji Pyung. My favorites scenes were their interactions; grandma leaving the keys for Ji Pyung, when JP helped her deposit her money in the bank, grandma replacing his worn out shoes, and not but not least, when Ji Pyung revealed himself to her after 15 years. These two made me tear up.

Nam Joo Hyuk is a good character but he's not Seo Dal Mi's pen pal. Han Ji Pyung's letters helped her get over the challenges that faced her young life...his thoughts, his personality shone through his letters. In other words, Dal Mi's already emotionally invested on Ji Pyung. The only scenario that will change my mind is if the writer portrays their characters as having more of a big brother and little sister feelings for each other.
