I think it’s mostly because fans have read the novel and the set up is massively around heaven, kingdom, fancy stuffs. Even when we heard about the drama adaptation for the first time, people already wondered how they would present the whole grande heaven realm and kingdom etc. So, the expectation is high! The costumes etc are generally fine if those are for regular xianxia or wuxia drama, but absolutely not ‘divine’ or ‘heavenly’ enough for HoB…
So, if the original director and designer backed off after looking at the budget, then I guess it explained why…
And probably I wouldn’t blame the current director or designer, because I suspect it’s all budget issue…
