He even mutters to himself in his car that he he hoped he didnt reveal how he really felt" - to me that indicates he likes her - maybe he decided to reject her harshly because he knows his friend likes her and he doesnt want to lose any of his friendships. The signs were there when Jae In mentioned him having his chronic stomach issues at the very beginning when they were still married. Then Seri poisoning him via the supplements that she told Jae In to buy for him - his subsequent surgery and then ongoing stomach issues - the signs were all there from the beginning. A lot of us said at the very beginning he would most likely have stomach cancer by the end and we were right.

I wholeheartedly agree with you on the writer not doing due diligence to develop characters. Unfortunately, this seems to happen to Seo Jun Young quite often in his roles. I am not sure why. He was the ML in Apple of My Eye yet was pretty muc relegated to 2ML for 3/4 of that drama. The 2ML became the 1stML - their screen times changed and flipped between them - we saw the supposed 2ML interacting with more and more scenes with FL than we ever sawm of the ML with her. By the end, I didnt really even care much if he got together with the FL - there was just no chemistry - it was like it was lost somehow by around the 30-40th episode. I feel the same thing happened here.
If I have to choose who I want her to be with, though, it would be DY - like you said - he is her safe haven and comfort zone. He is faithful, heartwarming, cozy, comforting, like home - that's it - he is a home to her. A warm fireplace waiting for her.

She needs someone who is there for her, loves her, is faithful and trustworthy and will always have her back - that is Do Yun. You said it correctly - GC’s “love” was toxic - she loved him unconditionally but he betrayed her in the most horrible, unforgettable ways. He destroyed what love she had for him.
