Like why does he even like her?'The Heart Wants What It Wants'
Totally agree with you on this. I watched it while it was airing, and I remember a lot of people downvoting it because of the FL’s character in the early episodes and the complicated relationship with the 2ML, which turned off a lot of viewers.
I watched the whole thing, and honestly, I didn’t feel bored. Probably because I knew what to expect—slow…
Short answer: ZWX didn’t grow up at Mei’s house. Mei’s house is close to the ancestral home, which is why ZWX could easily visit Mei and also be at her own home when needed. I believe it was mentioned that ZWX had been running between Mei’s house and the hospital since she was a child. For her, Mei’s house likely felt more like home than the ancestral home where everyone else lived. That’s just my guess, since they don’t explicitly say it.
I thought the drama was well done. I’d suggest watching the first few episodes and deciding for yourself instead of relying on others’ opinions. Just a heads-up—it’s not your typical K-drama rom-com, and you’ll understand why from the first episode and probably that's the reason why people are having hard time with the drama.
I watched the whole thing, and honestly, I didn’t feel bored. Probably because I knew what to expect—slow burn, melo, long runtime—so I was ready for it.
Well, you can’t really compare the pacing of an 8-episode drama to a 30-episode one. What do you expect—wrap…
Totally get where you’re coming from—watching them circle each other for episodes can feel like being stuck in traffic with no ETA. But hey, maybe the leads are just socially distancing before it was cool. 😉
Anyway, hope your next drama is more your speed and have leads who meet before the opening credits. 😉
I think you haven't completed the drama yet If you're talking about LXZ and XJB.
You're definitely not alone when it comes to the 'getting on my nerves' part, and I’m guessing you’ve already seen the spoiler comment. So yeah, in the end, I’d say LXZ found the right person for her, I guess.
Star cast, solid story, excellent production—no surprise it has high view counts.
Welcome to MDL! People can be pretty unpredictable when it comes to ratings here. Sometimes they’ll dock points for the silliest reasons—disliking a character, not vibing with an actor, complaining about too much makeup, or arguing over whether there’s too much drama or not enough. My advice? Give a drama a couple of episodes to see if it’s your style. If it clicks, great—stick with it. If not, no big deal—drop it and move on. Don’t let MDL ratings decide for you; they’re just opinions, after all!
But I think most of the early viewers had issues with the pacing of the drama. It’s a bit slow for some people’s taste, I believe.
It's been a while since I watched it, but from what I remember, MC romance starts slow due to other plotlines. Then there's a confirmed relationship - breakup, and they get back together in the last minute.
This is just what I recall.
If you're looking for romance, the buildup and early stages of the relationship were well done.
They’re taking it nowhere. I mean, why haven’t the main leads met yet? I’m on episode 6 bte. If there’s…
Well, you can’t really compare the pacing of an 8-episode drama to a 30-episode one. What do you expect—wrap up the romance in 5 episodes and spend the next 25 on cuddling scenes?
Maybe long-format dramas just aren’t your thing, and that’s totally fine.
As for “That’s why C-dramas can’t achieve THAT much fame,” I don’t really get where you’re coming from. First, you’re talking about an industry that caters to 1.3 billion people and pumps out hundreds of dramas every year without breaking a sweat. Second, Chinese dramas are made for Chinese audiences, not necessarily for people outside of China. So international audience's likes/dislikes, and how drama performs outside china isn’t part of their concern.
Also, there are plenty of shorter-length Cdramas too! Fake It Till You Make It (2023) is one of my favorites, and it’s way more compact.
And honestly, long-format dramas aren’t exclusive to China. Kdramas used to (and still do) have plenty of long, 40–50–100-episode shows. A lot of these still air on TV—like Beauty and Mr. Romantic, a 50-episode Kdrama I just finished. Most of that changed because of Netflix and similar platforms.
Main character is 17 but acts like she’s 8. A lot of the “cute scenes” are just straight up not interesting…
"When main girl is 14 she looks she is 8"
Well, tbf, they actually mentioned that in one of the earlier episodes. They pointed out that she looks younger than her age, and even her brother teases her about it. So, it’s not like they’re doing anything strange here. Plus, there are plenty of people like that in real life. My neighbor is 29 but literally looks like he’s 17.
Yeah, that's the case for most people here, which is why the rating is so low. If they'd maintained the same tone throughout and ended on a positive note, it would definitely be closer to an 8.
I probably won't rewatch this, but if I ever do, it would likely be for the second couple's storyline. There's some drama there, and it ends on a happy note. The rest of the show, I'll skip.
Yeah, sad ending. Although some people think it's an open ending, I genuinely don't see it that way. It felt like the story was written by a completely different person for the last three episodes or so because there were no signs of a sad ending—everything was going smoothly. But if you do decide to watch it, you can stop somewhere around Ep 32–33 and just imagine they lived happily ever after.
Also, you can give it a try for the second and third couples.
The second couple’s story starts with some frustrating misunderstandings and things like that, but they eventually resolve everything and get a happy ending.
The third couple is more of a fluffy, cute romance.
The drama is mostly focused on the three FL's but yea you can call him the main ML.
I'd say it depends. If you're in the mood for fluffy romance or anything of those sorts, this is not it. Is there any romance? Yes, there is, and it's mostly a mature kind of romance.
Like I said, the story mostly focuses on the three FLs and their lives. It's a bit of a melo but bearable.
It has a good story, and it's just 12 episodes. So maybe give it a try.
